WoW SoD Phase 2 Shaman Runes

Rune Engraving is a new system in Wow Season of Discovery that allows players to use skills added in future DLCs. It brings a lot of excitement and changes to the gameplay of WoW Classic Vanilla.
Nothing is more remarkable for Shaman players than having access to some of the future DLC skills in the early game. We can combine these new runes in-game to create a new Shaman Build, with a total of 24 runes available so far. This opens up endless possibilities and promises an exhilarating experience.

This article will provide detailed information on the 7 runes for Shaman and where or how to obtain them. We will keep updating this page with more details about the Shaman Runes and their locations as they become available.

WoW SoD Phase 2 Shaman runes - Engrave Belt - Fire Nova rune


Rune Effect: Your Fire Nova Totem spell is replaced with Fire Nova, which causes your current Fire totem to emit damage at its location.
Rune Location: In Desolace, Shamans should defeat

Flameseer Dubelen at (57, 21)

. Then, they should travel to Orgrimmar and speak to

Zor Lonetree (39.0, 38.0)

. After that, they need to return to Desolace and head to the

entrance of Maraudon

. Here, they must loot two separate Tears of Theradras. For the Purple Wing, they should loot the

Tear of Theradras located at (27, 57)

. For the Orange Wing, they should loot the

Tear of Theradras (39, 57)

. Once they have both Tears of Theradras, they must head back to

Zor Lonetree

, who will guide them to

Arch Druid Hamuul Runetotem located at (78.6, 28.6)

in Thunder Bluff. Shamans should speak with Tal at the Thunder Bluff flight path and travel to Moonglade. They should speak with

Keeper Remulos at (36, 41)

to receive the

Elemental Salve

there. After obtaining the Elemental Salve, Shamans should travel to Moonglade to find the

Corrupted Fire Totem(55, 65

). They should then use the Elemental Salve to cleanse the totem, and as a reward, they will receive the

Brimstone Icon

. Once they have received the Brimstone Icon, Shamans should equip it and hit enemies

25 times with the Rockbiter Weapon

. Doing so and right-clicking on the equipped Brimstone Icon will earn the Fire Nova Rune.
Update 20FEB, 2024: 
- Fixed an issue where Fire Nova did not benefit properly from Elemental Mastery.

WoW SoD 

Phase 2 Shaman runes - Engrave Belt - Maelstrom Weapon rune


Rune Effect: When you deal damage with a melee attack, you have a chance to reduce the cast time of your next Lightning Bolt, Chain Lightning, Lesser Healing Wave, Healing Wave, Chain Heal, or Lava Burst spell by 20%. Stacks up to 5 times. Lasts 30 sec.
Rune Location: Charlga Razorflank, the boss in

Razorfen Kraul

, will drop a Scroll. This Scroll can only be used at level 30. Take the Scroll to

Rau Cliffrunner

, found in

Freewind Post in Thousand Needles

. To reach Freewind Post, follow the

River north from Tarren Mill

. Once you arrive at Freewind Post, go to

(80.4, 66.8) and find Bath'rah the Windwatcher

. Before talking to him, type /pray in the chat bar. Next, travel to Desolace and collect

10 Wind Orbs from Wind Elementals

. Then, go to Dustwallow Marsh and collect

10 Water Orbs from Water Elementals

. Finally, go to Badlands and collect

10 Earth Orbs from the Earth Elementals

located East of Kargath. Once you have all the orbs, return to

Bath'rah the Windwatcher

north of Tarren Mill, and bring a

Crystal Vial x 1

. Bath'rah will fill the Vial for you. After that, return to Freewind Post and give the

Filled Vial to Rau Cliffrunner

. Drink the Vial and talk to the Flight Master in Freewind Post. To complete the final steps, kill the

Closest Caster

, then kill the

Elite Water Elemental

. Loot the

eye

. If you die, talk to the spirit guide and ask to be taken back to your previous location. Do not Spirit Resurrect! Finally, return to Bath'rah the Windwatcher north of Tarren Mill and receive the Maelstrom Weapon Rune.

Phase 2 Shaman runes - Engrave Belt - Power Surge rune


Rune Effect: Each time Flame Shock deals damage, it has a 5% chance to reset the cooldown on Lava Burst and Chain Lightning and make the next Lava Burst, Chain Heal, or Chain Lightning within 10 sec instant.
Rune Location:  Head to the Arathi Highlands and find the

Boulderfist Ogres (levels 32-33)

. They can be found surrounding a short mountain and inside a cave around (34, 44). Kill the ogres until you loot the

Ogre Lightning Rod

. Take the Lightning Rod and place it on top of the mountain into

Soft Soil

. Target the Lightning Rod and strike it with

Lightning Bolt 10 times

. Doing this will summon

Tam'kar

who is a level 37 Elite. Defeat Tam'kar to loot the Power Surge rune.
Update 16FEB, 2024: Power Surge gained during a Lava Burst, Lightning Bolt, or Chain Lighting cast will no longer be consumed by that cast (since it does not benefit).

Phase 2 Shaman runes - Engrave Boots - Ancestral Awakening rune


Rune Effect: When you critically heal with your Healing Wave or Lesser Healing Wave you summon an Ancestral spirit to aid you, instantly healing the lowest percentage health party member within 40 yards for 30% of the amount healed.
Rune Location: To start in Desolace, head to the Extinguished Campfire northwest of the Kodo Graveyard (47, 54). Once there, please pick up the quest and head to Kormek's Hut (63, 39) to turn it into Bibbly F'utzbuckle. Bibbly will give you the next quest, On the Lam. To continue the quest, travel to Booty Bay and go to the inn. Speak to Tokal to turn in On the Lam and pick up Cherry for Your Thoughts. Buy Cherry Grog and give it to her. She will then give you the next quest, “No Honor Among Thieves”. Next, head to the bridge between Arathi Highlands and the Wetlands and find the Rowboat around (53, 91) on the Arathi Highlands map. Interact with the boat to be teleported to the eastern shore. Find Illari Duskfeather and speak with her. You must defeat her in a fight to obtain Illari's Key, which unlocks a nearby chest containing the Ancestral Awakening Rune. Night Elves have a peaceful dialogue option to obtain Illari's Key instead of fighting her.

Phase 2 Shaman runes - Engrave Boots - Decoy Totem rune


Rune Effect: Summons a Decoy Totem for 10 sec with 5 health at the feet of the target that will redirect the next melee or ranged attack made against the target to the totem instead. The totem also grants the target immunity to movement impairing effects for 10 sec.
Rune Location: Go to Thousand Needles. Defeat

Cloud Serpents

to gather 3 Cloud Serpent Fangs. Eliminate

Harpies

to collect 10 Strong Harpy Feathers. Acquire 1 Silken Thread, which is

available from vendors

. Head to the

Altar of the Wind Spirit

at coordinates (39.4, 42.0), positioned behind a hut on top of the bluff. Use the Cloud Serpent Fangs or the Strong Harpy Feathers to craft an Offering to the Wind Spirit. Retrieve the Decoy Totem Rune after completing the offering.
Update 16FEB, 2024: 
The range on Decoy Totem is now the correctly intended 30 yards, matching the radius of its effect preventing movement impairment.

Phase 2 Shaman runes - Engrave Boots - Spirit of the Alpha rune


Rune Effect: Infuses the target with the spirit of an alpha wolf, increasing all threat generated by the target by 45% for 30 min. Limit 1 target.
Rune Location: You can obtain Spirit of the Alpha Rune by a Weathered Cache by looting it from the top of the mushroom-shaped rock near Freewind Post in Thousand Needles, located at coordinates (46, 53).

Phase 2 Shaman runes - Engrave Chest - Two-Handed Mastery rune


Rune Effect: Each time you strike an enemy with a two-handed weapon, you gain 30% attack speed with two-handed weapons for 10 sec.
Rune Location: Travel to Deadwind Pass and meet with the

Dalaran Agent located at Ariden's Camp (52, 35)

. The agent will provide you with

Ariden's Sigil

. Once you have it, equip the Sigil or team up with another player who has it equipped. You will then need to use the Sigil to

Reveal Dark Rider

and hunt down 7 Dark Rider Elites. Killing the Elites while having the Sigil equipped will reward you with different

Dalaran Relics

. Keep your eyes open for the

Dark Presence buff

, which indicates that a Dark Rider Elite is nearby. The Dark Riders can be found at different locations across the following areas:

Deadwind Pass (43, 29), Duskwood (23, 47), Swamp of Sorrows (69, 28), Arathi Highlands (60, 40), Badlands (58, 54), The Barrens (52, 36), and Desolace (65, 25).

Once you have obtained all 7 Dalaran Relics, return to the Dalaran Agent and turn in each reward quest for experience points and some silver. When you have returned all 7 relics, you will receive Two-Handed Mastery Rune as a final reward.
Update 20FEB, 2024: The proc chance of Maelstrom Weapon is now roughly 50% higher when your main hand weapon or your two-hand weapon is imbued with Windfury Weapon.

Class Turning Update

Update 16FEB, 2024: 
Fixed an issue where the benefit of Dual Wield Specialization rune could be lost for Shamans when swapping weapon configurations.
Fixed an issue where Stormstrike would sometimes do offhand damage despite no offhand equipped.
The range on Decoy Totem is now the correctly intended 30 yards, matching the radius of its effect preventing movement impairment.
Power Surge gained during a Lava Burst, Lightning Bolt, or Chain Lighting cast will no longer be consumed by that cast (since it does not benefit).
Fixed an issue where Ravaging Tempest could sometimes not lose its protective aura when Ailgrah Splittusk was killed.
Update 20FEB, 2024: 
- Fixed an issue where Fire Nova did not benefit properly from Elemental Mastery.
- The Dual-Wield Specialization rune now provides a 50% bonus damage to your offhand weapon swings.
- Lava Lash now gains a 50% increased damage if Flametongue Weapon is imbued on your offhand.
- The proc chance of Maelstrom Weapon is now roughly 50% higher when your main hand weapon or your two-hand weapon is imbued with Windfury Weapon.
