WoW Season of Discovery: Phase 2, Class-Specific Rune Predictions! Which Class is the Strongest?

by        Game: WOW Classic Season Of Discovery Guide

Season of Discovery phase 2 is about to begin, and the renowned Warcraft site Wowhead has created a wishlist for rune predictions! Some entries on the list will fill the gaps in class design from the classic version of WoW. In contrast, others will add a lot of class fantasies, attempting to include ideas for each specialization of every class—or just generally awesome class ability designs introduced in the past twenty years of WoW!

Druid Runes Prediction
-Eclipse (Solar): First introduced in Wrath of the Lich King, this ability made the Balance specialization a viable DPS specialization. In the second phase, interacting with the newly introduced Rune of the Stars will create exciting new rotation opportunities in the Owlkin domain.
-Berserk: This cooldown skill for Feral Druids debuted during Wrath of the Lich King and has undergone several redesigns in the past 15 years. Regardless of which version of Berserk is introduced, it will undoubtedly enhance the current gameplay loop for Feral Druids.
-Tree of Life: The answer to the question, "What is the most iconic spell for Restoration Druids in WoW?" will eventually find its place in the Season of Discovery. The current design from the Dragon Age will significantly impact Druid healers in classic content as a major healing cooldown skill.
Hunter Runes Prediction

-Spirit Attunement: Melee hunters lack damage and cycling skills in the Season of Discovery. With interactive cooldown skills like Spirit Attunement, the survival fantasy might finally become a reality! The development team needs to adjust the spells benefiting from Coordinated Assault; however, they have already demonstrated the ability to do so by introducing the version in their expansion and showcasing its capabilities.
-Readiness: With abilities like Explosive Shot and Chimera Shot, Marksmanship Hunters are well-prepared for the second phase. Passive talents like Readiness will encourage an active playstyle, combining effective resource management. Since hunters in classic WoW use mana instead of focus, rewarding in a flat or gradually restoring mana makes sense, especially considering that mana consumption will become an issue for Marksmanship Hunters in longer fights.
-Aspect of the Beast: Aspect of the Cheetah is one of the core fantasies of the Hunter class—so why not add another one? Currently, Beast Mastery Hunters don't need any additional damage utility—an enduring buff like Aspect of the Beast will increase the overall damage potential and resilience of Hunter pets, thanks to enhanced effects from pet passive skills. Perhaps we'll be bombarded by wind serpents in PvP and see them become team tanks in the future? Who knows!
Mage Runes Prediction

-Arcane Barrage: It can be said that the introduction of Mage healing has been successful overall. As one of the essential spells in the future Arcane Mage toolkit, Arcane Barrage can fill the gap in Mage healers' point healing while also providing a decent mobility tool for Arcane Mages.
-Summon Water Elemental: Last June, retail Mages had to bid farewell to their Water Elementals—so why not bring them back in the Season of Discovery? Initially introduced in The Burning Crusade, even a temporary version of the Water Elemental would bring more diversity to Frost Mage toolkits that have already received some rune upgrades in the first phase.
-Dragon's Breath: Currently, Fire Mages are the top performers among all DPS Mage specializations and are sure to remain strong in all content. Introducing a situational but extremely useful spell like Dragon's Breath will enhance the overall Fire gameplay and provide a healthy alternative to the beloved Cone of Cold.
Paladin Runes Prediction

-Aura Mastery: Similar to the Aspect of the Cheetah for hunters, Paladins are known for their auras in WoW Classic. A lot of design space has already been filled through talents enhancing auras in all three Paladin talent trees—so why not introduce a way to improve further or ultimately change the aura of your choice?
-Avenging Wrath: Few classes have such an iconic spell in their toolkit as Paladins. At this historical moment, these "wings" showcase one of the essential cooldown skills across all three Paladin archetypes, making it an excellent addition to the season of discovery runes
-Divine Steed: As the last item on the wishlist for all three Paladin archetypes, the Divine Steed will at least partially fill the significant mobility gap in their toolkit—and it looks very fitting for the Paladin style in a classic setting. Moreover, who wouldn't want Paladins to become Death Knights in the Season of Discovery by treading the path of Arthas?

Priest Runes Prediction

Mind Spike: Like Balance Druids, Shadow Priests have standard "hybrid DPS" issues in WoW Classic, so introducing a direct way to deal substantial direct damage like Mind Spike will at least address one problem in Shadow's issues. Another central issue for Shadow is mana, so adding some mana regeneration to Mind Spike would kill two birds with one stone!
Incited Delirium: As one of the most unique spells in the Discipline toolkit, Incited Delirium will add immense utility for Priests and their allies in the Season of Discovery. Priests have historically had many amazing cooldown skills. Still, one encouraging passive effect for dynamic Power Word: Shield, rewarding players, and their allies, which sounds like what classic priests need.
Lightweaver: As one of the newer Priest skills on our list, this Dragon Age talent reads very straightforward but is also highly effective, rewarding the use of two main healing spells in the Holy Priest toolkit.

Rogue Runes Prediction

Roll the Bones: This finishing move added to the Rogue toolkit during Legion reflects the fantasy of a gambler Rogue. Some of the six buffs it provides might be too situational for a classic setting—but if the development team decides to introduce new, more universal buffs, all Rogue archetypes could benefit from them!
Fan of Knives: As one of the many meticulously designed abilities introduced during Wrath of the Lich King, Fan of Knives showcases a brilliant solution to the problem that Rogues couldn't deal proper area-of-effect damage before this.
All enemies share combo points, switch targets to save combo points: We hoped to keep this wishlist without including entirely new rune ideas—however, this groundbreaking change, introduced in the Warlords of Draenor expansion and reported by Wowhead over seven years ago, is a favorite! Being able to store combo points on all targets, not just on specific types, is not only a quality-of-life change for all types of classic Rogues but is especially exciting for the newly introduced Rogue tanks, who will cheerfully scream!

Shaman Runes Prediction

Sundering (Two-Handed Only): The fantasy of Enhancement Shamans wielding two-handed weapons is a community favorite—but it's in great danger. Adding an exclusive spell usable with two-handed weapons is very restrictive but provides a solution. The Sundering version introduced during Legion would be a flavorful and intuitive spell, perfectly showcasing the fantasy of an Elemental Master wielding two-handed weapons!
Summon Earth Elemental: Shaman tanks have been a successful experiment in the Season of Discovery. A decent defensive cooldown skill like Summon Earth Elemental, complete with a robust Earth Elemental, would be an excellent addition to the classic Shaman toolkit.
Totem Recall: Totem utility was not a part of the classic design—hence the later addition of spells like Totem Recall, considered a "given." Since totems are essential to the classic Shaman gaming experience, adding this spell makes perfect sense.

Warlock Runes Prediction

Hand of Gul'dan: Demonology fantasies have seen significant development in the retail version in recent years, especially concerning temporary minions. A Hand of Gul'dan capable of temporarily summoning three regular imps would undoubtedly be a flavorful and engaging damage cooldown skill, benefiting from classic Warlock talents like Improved Firebolt.
Havoc: With Chaos Bolt present in the Season of Discovery, Havoc is undoubtedly a fantastic situational choice for all content. In WoW Classic, casting non-periodic Warlock damage spells always felt clumsy and one-dimensional, so this ability introduced in WoW Cataclysm will address that issue.
Burning Rush: Undoubtedly, classic Warlocks lack proper mobility options. We considered adding Demonic Circle to our list. Still, Burning Rush, as a flexible movement option rather than a hard teleport, seems more fitting—especially considering that current Warlock tanks are trying to taunt monsters running around breaking their demons' ankles in the process.

Warrior Runes Prediction

Bladestorm: In classic, powerful area-of-effect, crowd control is rampant, and Warriors are the primary targets. The addition of Warbringer undoubtedly helps, and Bladestorm would be another step in the right direction—let alone, it's one of the coolest Warrior spells in WoW
Gladiator Stance: Going back to when Warlords of Draenor was released, Protection Warriors enjoyed six weeks of fun, engaging in PvE and dominant in PvP—thanks to Gladiator Stance. Shortly after, this ability was significantly nerfed and removed upon the release of Legion. Now, nine years later, Gladiator Stance appears in the game files for the Season of Discovery—so there's hope that this stance, which increases all physical damage and replaces Shield Block with Shield Charge, might make a return.
Shockwave: Playing around with powerful ranged area-of-effect crowd control in the classic ruleset is as dangerous as playing with fire—but Shockwave is such an excellent ability for all Warrior archetypes that not including it on this list is unthinkable, as it interrupts targets besides having a stunning effect.
