After weeks of players calling the old Honor gains “diabolical," Blizzard dropped a hotfix on April 1 that actually delivers. The official post keeps it short and professional, but in-game testing shows kills, objectives, and wins now pay out roughly ten times more than they did yesterday. It feels like Blizzard listened to the feedback on the accelerated timeline, though the April Fools timing still makes some people double-check their logs.

You can read the original announcement here: Significant Increase to Honor in Battlegrounds.
Before the hotfix, a normal kill gave you 3–10 Honor. Objectives barely moved the needle, and even a clean win topped out around 400–500 on most maps. Now the system weights kills and map-specific actions much heavier. Player logs from the first few hours line up consistently:
Battleground | Pre-Hotfix Win (approx.) | Post-Hotfix Win (approx.) | Per Kill (Post) | Key Objective (Post) | Time for ~5k Honor (est.) |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
Warsong Gulch | 400–500 | ~1,000 | 30–60 | Flag cap: ~420 | 3–4 short games |
Eye of the Storm | 300–400 | 3,700–4,000+ | 40–70 | Towers + flag: scaled | 1–2 games |
Arathi Basin | 250–350 | 2,500–3,500 | 35–65 | Resource tick: ~210 | 2–3 games |
Alterac Valley | 500–600 | 4,000+ | 40–70 | Graveyard/tower caps | 1 long game |
The per-kill focus pushes aggressive players who rotate between hotspots ahead fast. At the same time, it does open the door for coordinated groups to ignore objectives and just farm kills, which might drag some games longer for everyone else.
Short maps like Warsong Gulch and Eye of the Storm now shine for quick sessions. A focused 15–20 minute game with decent kills and objectives easily nets 2,000–4,000 Honor—perfect for alts or when you only have half an hour.
In Arathi Basin the resource ticks feel meaningful again, so defending and flipping nodes alongside kills still beats pure deathmatching. Even a small group of two or three friends calling simple rotations can triple what randoms pull without turning the match toxic. These changes compress what used to be multi-day grinds into single evenings, which lines up exactly with how fast the phases are moving.

The accelerated schedule already made Honor gear feel required instead of optional for raiding alts and PvP mains. This hotfix gives people who missed the pre-patch window a real shot at catching up. After the hotfix, players are able to finish off-pieces in one or two nights instead of burning out on endless AV farms. It also helps keep queues healthy longer into the season—something the community has asked for since launch.

Queue kill-heavy maps like Warsong Gulch or Eye of the Storm during peak hours and aim for 15+ personal kills plus full objective participation. Real-time Honor addons help you pivot toward active areas mid-game. A couple of friends for light coordination makes a noticeable difference without full-premade pressure.
Eye of the Storm currently leads for most players. An 18–20 minute win reliably delivers 3,700–4,000+ Honor when you contest towers and the flag. It balances high kill potential with objective scaling better than longer AV sessions.
Only Battlegrounds changed. Daily Honor quests like Spirits of Auchindoun or Hellfire Fortifications stay at their normal ~943 Honor each. Run two or three quick BGs on top of your dailies and you'll hit 5,000–7,000 Honor in an easy evening.
Blizzard has not announced an end date. The hotfix went live with no stated expiration, though past tweaks have usually stayed until the next major phase. Treat the current window as a limited acceleration opportunity and keep an eye on the official forums.
Pieces that once took 20–30 hours of grinding now take roughly 4–8 hours depending on how efficiently you play. Alts or anyone who missed the pre-patch window can realistically complete a full Honor set before Season 2 arenas open with just a couple of nights per week.
Switch to shorter maps unless you enjoy AV's big scale. AV still pays well at 4,000+ per win, but the time investment is higher. Save it for relaxed sessions and use WSG or EotS when you want maximum Honor per minute.
In short, Blizzard turned Battlegrounds from a slog into one of the fastest ways to gear up on TBC Anniversary servers. Thousands of Honor per short queue finally matches the accelerated pace of the realm.
