The Horadric Cube changed how endgame gearing works in the Lord of Hatred expansion. What used to feel like endless RNG now gives experienced players real tools to shape their gear. In Season 13, the advanced recipes stand out most — they let you protect Greater Affixes, stack affixes that normally don't belong together, craft Unique Charms, and scale resources efficiently.
Editor's Note: This guide assumes you already know the basics. The Cube rewards patience and planning more than anything else. One wrong transmutation and that nice base becomes account-bound junk.
Most of the Cube's real power lives in the Gear Modification options. Add Affix, Remove Affix, Focused Reroll, and Chaotic Reroll become far more useful once you start using Tuning Prisms to steer the category — Offensive, Defensive, Utility, and so on.
A technique many players still miss: protect Greater Affixes before you reroll. Take the item to the Occultist, enchant it, and select the GA you want to keep without actually replacing anything. Then head back to the Cube and use a matching Tuning Prism with Focused Reroll. It dramatically lowers the chance of losing that valuable affix. This also opens the door to stacking multiple affixes from the same category, something normal gear simply doesn't allow.
Start with a strong Ancestral base. Strip it down if needed, add targeted affixes, refine with rerolls, then temper, socket, and masterwork to 25/25. Only then consider bigger moves. Repeated work in the same category on rings or gloves sometimes pulls better multipliers than you'd expect from regular drops. It's one of those small edges that adds up in high Torment.
Transfigure Item is where things get serious. It adds a strong random bonus — sometimes skill ranks or big multipliers — but it usually locks the item from further changes. Always finish sockets, tempers, and masterworking first.
On amulets, the right Tuning Prism (like Kullean) often lets you add a second Legendary Aspect while still keeping some modifiability. For general safety on chase pieces, Entropic prisms cut the worst outcomes, though they also trim some of the highest rolls. I've seen too many solid Legendaries turned into expensive bricks by rushing this step. Use it only when the base is truly ready.
Craft Unique Charm remains one of the strongest advanced options. Feed it an Ancestral Unique plus three other Unique Charms and you move that power into your Talisman slots. Not every Unique works, but the ones that do effectively give you an extra gear piece. This is how strong hybrid builds come together.
For set bonuses, use Set Charm Reroll with Infused Horadric Resin (salvaged from extra charms) to stay inside the same family while hunting good stats or Greater Affixes. The simpler 3-to-1 Transmutation works better when you just need to fill gaps with random junk charms. Recycle Unique (three of the same) also sees more use now for chasing better GA rolls on popular items. It's expensive in materials but sometimes the cleanest path.
Amalgamation is where steady progress happens. The 5-to-1 upgrade rule applies across many systems and rewards smart farming [Wowhead Horadric Cube Guide]. Focus most of your effort here on two things: Armaments Tributes for Mythic Undercity access and runes for Mythic Unique crafting. Sigils and boss materials also benefit, but the returns are more situational.
Category | 5× Input | Output Tier | Main Payoff |
|---|---|---|---|
Armaments Tributes | Lesser → Rare | Legendary → Mythic | Elite Undercity runs and group Mythic farming |
Runes | Blue → Yellow | Yellow → Legendary | Essential materials for crafting Mythic Uniques |
Nightmare Sigils | Regular | Escalation | Faster access to high-reward bosses like Astaroth |
Boss Materials | Specific Trophy | Targeted Unique pool | Bypassing RNG on specific boss loot tables |
Salvage everything else. The resin and dust you get back fuel charm rerolls and affix work. Skipping this balance is exactly how players hit material walls later. For more details on materials and drop locations, check [Maxroll's Horadric Cube resource].

Enchant the GA at the Occultist first without replacing it, then use a matching Tuning Prism for Focused Rerolls. This is currently the most consistent method.
Only after the item is fully prepared with sockets, tempers, and masterworking. Save Kullean prisms for amulets if you want to keep some flexibility.
Chain Amalgamation from blues to yellows to legendaries, then run Rune Tribute events in Undercity. It beats pure grinding by a noticeable margin.
Target Ancestral Uniques through Upgrade recipes or bosses, stockpile generic Unique Charms, and prioritize powers that free up normal gear slots. See [Icy Veins Horadric Cube Overview] for additional examples.
Yes. You can stack same-category affixes and add second aspects on amulets in ways that never drop naturally. Always test on lower-value items first because everything binds.
War Plans caches, Tree of Whispers rewards, and elite packs in Torment. Salvaging extra charms and tributes helps keep your consumable stock healthy.
The Horadric Cube rewards players who treat it like a craft rather than a slot machine. Get the preparation right and the advanced recipes deliver some of the biggest power jumps in Season 13.
