In Diablo 4's Lord of Hatred expansion and Season 13, gems finally matter at endgame. The new Horadric tiers deliver multiplicative weapon damage that actually moves the needle on your clear speed and boss times. Most players know the tiers exist, but the gap between hearing about them and actually slotting a 32% multiplier is where things get grindy. Some community members have voiced concerns that the Horadric gem grind could take days for casual players, but here's exactly how the system works and the fastest path forward.
Gems now socket into weapons for real multiplicative bonuses instead of the old flat additives. A Flawless Horadric gives 32% to your main damage type, while Horadric sits at 28%. That scaling makes them one of the strongest consistent upgrades this season. Armor sockets lean toward attributes, jewelry toward resistances, but weapons are where you chase the big numbers.
Equipment | Max Sockets |
|---|---|
Tunic / Pants | 2 |
Amulet / Ring | 1 |
1-Hand Weapon | 1 |
2-Hand / Bow | 2 |
Match the gem to your damage type: Sapphire for cold, Topaz for lightning, Skull for physical, and so on. Diamond remains the flexible pick when you need all-stats coverage.
The clear winner right now is Seer's Reach in the Skovos zone, just north of Temenos. You need the expansion to get there, but once inside it's pure efficiency. No side objectives, no prisoner rescues — just run straight to the scorpion boss at the end.
On any Torment level the boss drops Royal gems reliably. Higher Torment gives three per kill, while Torment 1 still hands you at least one and lets you clear ridiculously fast. There's also a decent chance for a direct Grand drop, roughly once every 17-20 runs. One thing worth noting: because the boss drops mixed colors, you'll end up with extras you don't need. Trading with clanmates or exchanging at the Jeweler early saves a ton of time compared to brute-forcing every color yourself.
Runs take 30-60 seconds with a mobile build. Bind your Leave Dungeon key, reset on the map, and repeat. Players are pulling around 160 Royal gems per hour this way, plus materials and gold as nice bonuses. Refuge of the Lost works as a backup if you prefer its layout, though it adds a few extra steps.
Open-world mob drops and Nightmare Dungeon gem reserves exist, but they feel slow after you've tasted the Seer's Reach loop. Farm this while it's strong — community chatter suggests the guaranteed low-Torment rewards might get tuned eventually.
You handle the top tiers at the Horadric Cube using the Amalgamation recipe. Five Grand gems of the same type make one Horadric. Five Horadric gems (25 Grands total) make one Flawless Horadric.
The math sounds rough on paper — effectively 250 Royal gems for a single Flawless after salvaging and fragment crafting — but the farm speed makes it realistic in a few focused hours.
Salvage unwanted Royals at the blacksmith for 100,000 fragments each, craft Grands at the Jeweler, then transmute at the Cube. Keep Forgotten Souls stocked, since Grand crafting eats them.
For those looking to optimize their build without the 250-gem grind, understanding the current market value of these endgame items is key. Below is the current availability for high-tier gems to help you bypass the repetitive farm.

Slot your best multiplier into weapons first. For classes with multiple weapon slots, plan the full set. Armor and jewelry gems fill stat or resistance holes that Paragon boards don't quite cover. Because drops are random, the smartest players treat surplus gems as trade currency rather than forcing every fragment through the wrong color.
That small habit cuts your total farming time more than most realize. In group content the multiplicative nature rewards coordinated damage types, but solo you get the biggest immediate lift by hyper-focusing one or two gems instead of spreading thin.
Only at the Horadric Cube with Amalgamation. Five matching Grands become one Horadric, and five Horadric become one Flawless. You cannot make them at the Jeweler.
Seer's Reach boss rush in Skovos. Rush the boss, loot, leave, reset, repeat. It works on any Torment and gives consistent Royals with occasional Grands.
Around 250 of the right color after accounting for the full upgrade chain. Trading extras and efficient runs bring the real-world time down significantly.
Low Torment for speed if your build melts the boss. Higher Torment for more total loot per run once you're comfortable. Both give strong gem rewards.
Exchange at the Jeweler, trade with other players, or salvage for fragments. Selling high-tier extras also prints solid gold.
It's possible. The guaranteed drops even on Torment 1 stand out, and players have flagged it as potentially overtuned. Grab your stockpile while the window lasts.
Season 13 gems reward players who farm smart instead of just farming hard. Get the Seer's Reach loop down and the multipliers follow.
