WoW SoD Phase 3: 20-player Raid for Level 50

by        Game: WOW Classic Season Of Discovery Guide

Ever since Blizzard announced that the next 50-level raid in World of Warcraft's SOD expansion would be a 20-player instance, speculation has been rife about what it could be. It might be Maraudon, the Sunken Temple, or perhaps Blackrock Depths. However, from the various clues available, it seems almost certain that the new 50-level raid will be the Sunken Temple.

The New 50-Level Raid: The Sunken Temple

Why is the new 50-level raid almost certainly the Sunken Temple? Well, we've found plenty of substantial evidence to suggest so. Firstly, data mining from Warcraft Tavern has revealed that the Sunken Temple's cooldown increased by 3 days and now has its unique ID. We can see that Blackrock Depths has ID 21, Gnomeregan has ID 22, and the Sunken Temple is now ID 23. This is a strong indicator that the Sunken Temple is being prepared as the third phase raid instance for when we reach level 50.

Furthermore, this would also continue the storyline of the Blood Moon event in Stranglethorn Vale. Hakkar is the blood god of the Zandalari, and the Sunken Temple is believed to be where he was brought back to Azeroth. The instance is filled with Zandalari trolls, their minions, and members of the Green Dragonflight, who are attempting to prevent anyone from successfully summoning Hakkar.

Modifications to the Sunken Temple

So how will Blizzard design the new 20-player raid instance, the Sunken Temple? In fact, the design of this instance is a bit too lengthy, with three large circular sections: upper, middle, and lower. If all bosses were designed as raid bosses, there would be too many, possibly exceeding 12.

This doesn't fit Blizzard's idea of designing "escalating" raid instances as streamlined encounters. Blackrock Depths is also unsuitable for conversion into a raid because the instance is too lengthy.

Therefore, it is believed that the upper area should consist of 6 small bosses with relatively low difficulty, easily defeated in simple battles. In fact, the rooms where they are located are too small to accommodate a formal 20-player raid battle, so only the Prophet Gahz'rilla and the Sad High Ogom will be designed as raid bosses, unlocked after defeating the six priests.

Most bosses in the lower area will be designed as raid bosses, including the four Green Dragons in the corridors, the summoning ritual of Hakkar, and the Shadow of the Dragon Eranikus. The skills of the four Green Dragons in the lower area are somewhat repetitive and monotonous, so adjustments will be made to make the boss battles more interesting.

Upgraded Equipment Rewards for Class Quest Chains

Completing the Sunken Temple is an important part of the level 50 class quest chains, making it an essential raid. If converted into a 20-player raid, it will add a lot of challenge and a sense of achievement.

The equipment and accessories the level 50 class quests rewarded were originally rare-quality items. However, in the future, players will need to challenge the 20-player raid instance to obtain them, and obviously, the original rare-quality items are not enough to reward players' efforts. Upgrading them to epic quality is more appropriate.

Imagine how powerful a versatile accessory like a diamond-level item would be if upgraded to epic quality.

In addition, the Sunken Temple itself will also drop some particularly powerful equipment. For example, the classic one-handed sword "Dragon's Call" has a very cool appearance and can summon an Emerald Whelp to fight for the player. Its original drop rate of 0.04% has always been the most difficult-to-obtain mysterious weapon in classic nostalgia servers. After Blizzard's modification, MMOJUGG believes many players can obtain the upgraded version of Dragon's Call.

Alright, that's all for the introduction to the new Sunken Temple raid in phase 3 of World of Warcraft SOD expansion. MMOJUGG is full of expectations for it!
