Content creator Hammerdance recently interviewed two key developers from
WoW Classic: Senior Game Producer Josh Greenfield and Lead Designer Tim Jones. They discussed various aspects of the
Season of Discovery, including runes, raids, and future plans.
Runes:
Obtaining runes has become cumbersome as the game progresses, especially for leveling alts. While the team has simplified some runes (e.g., Emerald Warder Rune), they aim to avoid placing all runes in NPC shops. Different classes share the same questlines for certain runes, such as the Dark Knight Rune, which will be adjusted for easier repetition. Additionally, the team plans to tweak the rune drops from lower-level dungeons due to a decline in activity there.
Currently, there are enough runes, and the UI is quite full, but new runes might be added if needed. They simplified the Black Dragon quest by allowing NPCs to sell the Dragonfire Amulet, primarily to help the Alliance due to their refresh CD issue. This simplification won't be widespread, but more adjustments might come if necessary.
Raids:
The
WoW Classic team, being small, can react swiftly. They've recently collaborated with the art department, resulting in new bosses for
Molten Core and designing new loading screens. The new dungeon, started as a designer's priest quest but was later transformed into a dungeon, which the team is very pleased with.
Contrary to rumors, Blackwing Lair won't be updated in the next few weeks. New raids are scheduled but will have intervals longer than a month. The team will review
Molten Core's difficulty data in the coming weeks to decide on future raid releases. If resistances perform well, they'll be used in future content.
Hammerdance inquired about a new raid CD system where players are locked to each individual boss rather than the entire raid. Blizzard considers this technically feasible but acknowledges it would impact the entire Classic experience.
Future:
Blizzard admits that the PvP community has been neglected and aims to balance PvP and PvE needs in the future. They encourage players to craft legendary staves confidently, assuring them they won't be retired soon. The final fate of Plus server characters hasn't been decided, but transitioning to a permanent level 60 realm is unlikely.
