In World of Warcraft Season of Discovery Phase 2, Elemental Shamans will undergo significant changes at level 40, representing a qualitative shift in their abilities.
Some key highlights of Elemental Shamans in Phase 2 include Elemental Mastery, Chain Lightning, Elemental Fury, and Lightning Mastery.
Investing 31 points in the Elemental talent tree will grant you Elemental Mastery. This talent gives you a stable critical strike every 3 minutes, which may not seem much at first glance. However, if you cast an instant-cast spell after a spell with a cast time while under the effects of Elemental Mastery, both spells will have a 100% chance to crit. This means you can use Chain Lightning followed by Earth Shock to unleash a powerful burst of damage every 3 minutes. If you effectively use Overload and Elemental Mastery, you might even get a crit on the second Chain Lightning, making it a nifty trick.
Elemental Shamans will also gain access to Elemental Fury, which grants a 100% critical damage bonus to fire, frost, and nature damage, including Lava Burst.
The elemental rotation has also been slightly sped up, with Lightning Mastery reducing the cast time of both Lightning Bolt and Chain Lightning by a whole second. This works well with the new rank of Chain Lightning, which is available at level 40, and the slightly lower rank of Lightning Bolt, which is available at level 38. Combined with the unique Rune Engraving system of the Season of Discovery and the use of Shaman runes, these changes make for a more exciting gameplay experience.
