Entering TBC Classic Anniversary demands solid level 60 epics to dominate early Outland quests and dungeons. Blizzard's pre-patch tweaks—double honor, slashed mark costs, and rank-free access—make Rank 14 PvP gear a no-brainer for fresh 60s, boosters, or alts. Consensus among top grinders: spam AV for guaranteed power spikes. But with queues heating up, how fast can you hit full epics before the February 5 Dark Portal launch?
R14 is just the start. The real grind begins Feb 5. Check our Complete TBC Anniversary Guide Hub.
Editor's Note: This guide has been updated with 2026 Anniversary meta. As the February 5th deadline looms, your time is your most valuable asset.
TBC Classic Anniversary flips the script on Classic PvP gearing. Honor shifts to direct currency at quartermasters in Stormwind/Orgrimmar—no grinding ranks for titles. The double honor event runs from patch launch (January 13) to February 5, boosting all sources including BGs, kills, and quests. Base AV wins yield ~532 honor when doubled.
Currency Source | Base Honor | Doubled Honor | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
AV Win (Full) | ~266 | 532 | 10-15 min games |
AV Loss (Towers) | ~210 | 420 | Still highly viable |
Daily PvP Quest | ~637 | 1,274+ | Confirmed doubled |
Honorable Kills | Varies | Doubled | AV meta maximizes this |
Expert Insight: Optimal path: Stack dailies with AV queues for 1,800+ honor/hour. Risk: Honor cap at 75k carries over—prioritize dumping into level 70 gear early if you hit the limit.
Beginner Tip: What is "Double Honor"? Simply put, during the pre-patch (Jan 13 NA/14 EU launch to Feb 5 TBC release), all honor sources (AV wins, kills, dailies, etc.) get doubled rewards! Rank 14 (Grand Marshal/High Warlord) is Classic's strongest PvP epic set—now buyable directly with honor + marks, no rank grinding needed. Plus, mark costs slashed (just 2-3 per piece), making it super affordable: even casual players (dad gamers) can full gear via AV in 1–4 weeks, ditching months of old-school grind!
Blizzard just dropped a massive PvP gearing boost on all Burning Crusade realms:
"As we previously indicated, soon after launching the Burning Crusade pre-expansion patch, we could see that PvP needed an additional increase in rate of gearing. Since some players have already purchased gear, we decided to make the following changes:
The current active increase to Honor gains is now 150% (was 100%). Added level 51-60 versions of the “For Great Honor" (Horde) and “Concerted Effort" (Alliance) quests. These quests award 400 honor (at level 60) when handed in, as well as experience for players from levels 51-59. Please note that lower-level characters receive less Honor than higher-level characters, with the Honor reward increasing at each level.
When the Dark Portal opens, these quests will no longer be available, and the level 61-70 versions of these quests will become available. The changes above are now live." - Original Source
Change | Details | Pre-Patch Value (to Feb 5 Launch) |
|---|---|---|
Honor Gain Multiplier | 150% (up from 100%) | ~50% faster BG/epic gearing |
New Quests (51-60) | "For Great Honor" (Horde) / "Concerted Effort" (Alliance) | 400 Honor + XP per turn-in; scales by level |
Quest Expiration | Ends at Dark Portal open (lvl70 quests replace) | Spam now: 2-3k Honor/hour alt-spamming |
Farm Tip: Rush BGs on 51-60 alts—quest hubs in Orgrimmar/Stormwind.
Horde: Grommash Hold; Alliance: Hero's Call board.
Loop 10-20x daily for 4k-8k Honor + levels. 60s hit 600 Honor/turn-in effective.
Expert Insight:
Optimal Path (Unmentioned): Pre-nerf window to Exalted—stack quests on fresh alts (game logic: XP accelerates to 60 in 2-3 days, then pure Honor farm; caps at 61-70 swap for sustained P1 PvP BiS). Hit BGs now—gear up before queues explode!
Blizzard has officially increased the pre-patch honor multiplier to 150% (up from 100%). This change is designed to accelerate gearing before the TBC launch. Most importantly, a new 51-60 Quest Loop has been introduced, making it the absolute fastest way to gear and level alts simultaneously.
If you have alts in the 51-60 range, stop pure questing and move to this loop immediately:
Pick up the Quest:
Horde: "For Great Honor" (Grommash Hold, Orgrimmar).
Alliance: "Concerted Effort" (Hero's Call Board, Stormwind).
The Loop: Queue for BGs (AV is prioritized). Each turn-in grants 400-600 Honor (scales with level) plus significant Experience.
Efficiency: A single win provides marks for the turn-in + massive bonus honor.
Yield: 4,000–8,000 Honor per day just from quest turn-ins, alongside massive XP.
Dark Portal Deadline: These quests disappear on February 5, replaced by level 70 versions. Spam them now.
Term | Meaning |
|---|---|
AV | Alterac Valley: 40v40 BG, PvE-like towers/boss. |
BG | Battleground: PvP instances (AV/AB/WSG). |
HK | Honorable Kill: Bonus honor from enemy kills. |
Marks | Stone Keeper's Shards: BG tokens (2-3/win). |
Premade | Pre-made group: LFG 5-15 for win streaks. |
BiS | Best in Slot: Top gear for power. |
Hotfix | Blizzard quick patch (e.g., 150% buff Jan16). |
Beginner Tip: Double/150% honor = all PvP rewards x2.5! R14 = top Classic PvP epics, now honor+marks only—no rank ladder.
Blizzard's latest PTR tweaks slashed mark requirements while hiking honor prices to late-TBC levels—now confirmed live. Hotfix alert (Jan 15): Costs dropping further soon for faster gearing; hold excess honor if you are near the cap!
R14 epics (Grand Marshal/High Warlord) deliver BiS power for Outland (2x DPS vs greens), while R10 blues (Lieutenant Commander/Blood Guard) offer quick entry-level power for alts—9 hours total. Both need identical 15 marks (7 AB, 5 AV, 3 WSG).

Expert Insight: Post-hotfix risk—honor influx floods queues. Optimal path: Premade tower-rush now, bank 75k cap into Level 70 PVP Gear(R70 Previews for Arena Prep) previews. MMOJUGG pro tip: R10 first for alts, then upgrade weapons to R14.
Additional Note: If you are short on time, ignore the armor and buy the weapons. TBC Outland quests give decent armor quickly, but finding a weapon that beats R14 quality is nearly impossible until level 66+.
Alterac Valley dominates the meta as a PvE raid disguised as a BG. 10-minute wins are standard in the current pre-patch environment.
Rogues/Druids should shadowstep/stealth to south towers instantly.
Cap all towers (Priority: IQ/LD south).
Rush the captain/boss immediately after towers fall.
Expert Insight: Faction queues may balloon mid-patch. Optimal path: Use weekend double-dip events (AV weekend: Jan 30 - Feb 2) for 700-800 honor per match.
Rank 14 offers class sets with powerful 3/6-piece bonuses. The 3-piece bonus is often BiS for leveling through Hellfire Peninsula.
Class | 3-Piece Bonus | Stats Edge | Playstyle Fit |
|---|---|---|---|
Druid | +15% Speed | Int/Agi/Str | Questing gods |
Paladin | HoJ CD -10s | All stats + SP | Stun chain efficiency |
Warlock | Fear cast -0.2s | Massive SP | PvP server lifesaver |
Mage | Blink CD -2s | SP + Crit | High mobility pulls |
Warrior | Intercept CD -5s | Str/Stam | Necessary tankiness |
Application: Druid/Paladin sets are top-tier for their utility, which carries players all the way to level 70.
At 530 honor/BG (assuming 10-min AVs):
Full Set: ~123 BGs (20.5 hours)
Full Set + Weapons: ~140 BGs (23-28 hours)
AV Weekend Efficiency: Can reduce total time to 8-12 hours.
Pro Tips:
Pre-stock 20+ of each mark before the honor grind starts.
Use the MMOJUGG Gold Shop to buy consumables (speed potions/Jujus) to ensure your premade wins more consistently.
If you are tight on time, consider boost services to handle the mark farming.
With the buff stable since Jan 16, AV wins now reliably yield 600-800 honor (including HKs). Focus on premades + alt quest spam: aim for 10k+ honor/day by running 2-3 alts at 55-60. Dump excess over 75k cap into level 70 previews immediately. Weekend AV event (Jan 30-Feb 2) is your final big multiplier—plan 8+ hours those days.
Dungeon boosting (SM/Gnomeregan/Strat) or Plaguelands questing with rested XP. Target 2-4 days played time to 51+, then switch to BG + quest loop. Pro tip: Use engineering items (bombs, target dummies) to speed AV caps and quest efficiency.
No—bank it for level 70 PvP gear previews (R70 items) to avoid wasting the pre-patch multiplier. Post-Feb 5, honor gains halve, so every point now is worth roughly double later. Prioritize weapons and 3-piece set bonuses first.
Yes for mains—3-piece bonuses carry strongly into Hellfire and heroics. If time-crunched, grab R10 blues (8-12 hours) + R14 weapons/off-hand for hybrid power. Many players report R10 + weapon upgrade is enough for early Outland while slowly finishing epics post-launch.
To farm honor most efficiently, prioritize queuing for Alterac Valley (AV) in premade groups during the double honor event (Jan 13 - Feb 5). It offers the highest yields of 1,800-3,000 honor per hour solo or 4,000+ in premades. Pre-farm marks (7 AB, 5 AV, 3 WSG), focus on 10-12 minute wins for 532 honor, and stack the daily PvP quest for an extra 1,274 honor. Expert Insight: Watch the 75k cap; dump excess honor into level 70 gear previews to avoid locking rewards.
Alterac Valley (AV) is the undisputed best due to its PvE-raid style and superior output of 532 honor per win, far outpacing Arathi Basin or Warsong Gulch. While Alliance enjoys quicker south tower access, Horde players should consider cross-faction queuing or joining premades to maintain a 90%+ win rate and maximize efficiency.
A full AV win captures all towers and the boss, yielding 532 honor from the base ~266 doubled, plus HKs for a total of 600-800 honor in premades (especially on weekends). Even tower-controlled losses provide a solid 420 honor. If your gains are significantly lower, submit a bug ticket to Blizzard as live reports confirm these figures.
The event ends on February 5 at 3 PM PST with the TBC launch. After this, honor gains will halve, but marks remain unchanged (3 per win/1 per loss). Plan your grind around Battleground Weekends (AV weekend: Jan 30 - Feb 2) where wins can soar to 700+ honor.
Reports from Jan 14-15 indicate occasional glitches where players receive low gains (e.g., 96 on losses). This is often due to sub-level 60 scaling. Expert Insight: Faction imbalance is causing Alliance queues to grow; the optimal path for Horde is using alts or off-peak timing to secure marks without delays.
Pre-farm 20+ of each mark now since costs are reduced (2-3 per piece). Spam AV for honor and AV marks, then rotate into AB/WSG weekends.
The TBC Classic Anniversary pre-patch is the perfect time to secure Rank 14 gear. With double honor and optimized AV runs, you can be Outland-ready in under 28 hours.
