In the World of Warcraft Classic
Season of Discovery Phase 2, a new item has been added — the
Cozy Sleeping Bag. Many players, like
MMOJUGG, have cherished this item since obtaining it. Not only do they use it whenever the cooldown is up, but they also often stack them with teammates. However, have you really calculated the actual benefits of the sleeping bag?
The effect of the sleeping bag is well known: using it for 3 minutes grants a 3% experience gain buff lasting 2 hours, which seems decent at first glance, but crunching the numbers reveals a different story.
Most players above level 30 spend their time leveling in Scarlet Monastery. According to player calculations, a group of level 35 players running Scarlet Monastery for 2 hours can earn around 70,000 experience. The 3% experience bonus from the sleeping bag provides an additional 2,100 experience.
While this may seem significant, the net gain must account for the 1,750 experience lost during the 3-minute cooldown period (based on 70,000 experience over 2 hours). This brings the true net experience gain from the sleeping bag buff to only 350 experience over 2 hours, which is equivalent to killing an extra 3 small monsters.
The above calculations are based on ideal scenarios. In actual gameplay, players rarely have the opportunity to continuously run dungeons for 2 hours with the sleeping bag buff due to time wasted on things like player replacements, skill learning, gear repair, etc.
Yet, these are precisely the moments when the sleeping bag shines. I've seen too many teams during leveling where all 5 members enter a dungeon, lay down their sleeping bags, and waste even more time due to issues like players not knowing what to do, being slow, or waking up prematurely, resulting in less effective use of the buff than if they hadn't used it at all. The correct timing for using the sleeping bag is during those few minutes of downtime when there are no monsters to kill due to player replacements or hearthstone usage.
Of course, completing sleeping bag quests is still valuable. It doesn't take much time, and just obtaining 8 Student Fodder, which provides double experience, can easily make up for the time spent. Additionally, the quest series itself can provide five-digit experience.
Furthermore, besides providing the 3% buff, the sleeping bag has other black magic uses, even useful for running dungeons at max level. The sleeping bag provides the same effect as a main city/inn, allowing characters to instantly log out from within the sleeping bag without waiting for 20 seconds. This can be useful for actions like logging out after using burst potions to ensure double burst, among other operations. Players who enjoy leaderboard climbing should understand the mysteries behind this. Additionally, mages can use the new Season of Discovery item, the Scroll of Liminal Passage, to teleport from one sleeping bag to another, allowing for instant travel across Azeroth.
Logging out in a sleeping bag also provides the same offline double experience buff as a main city/inn, making it highly useful. With so many useful features, you definitely want to get your hands on a sleeping bag.
