With the release of
Season of Discovery Phase 4, most servers are experiencing medium to low load, indicating that players might be losing patience with SoD. Could a turnaround be on the horizon? Let's explore some recent news with
MMOJUGG.
1. Rune Catch-Up Mechanism
As Phase 4 progresses, more runes are becoming available, creating a challenge in terms of acquisition, especially for players who enjoy leveling alts. Runes are a core feature of the Season of Discovery, but unlocking them can be quite tedious. According to WoW Classic Lead Producer Josh Greenfield, Blizzard plans to introduce NPCs who will sell some of the older runes, including the associated skill books, to help new players catch up. However, due to development timelines, this feature will not be available in version 1.15.3 and might be introduced sometime in SoD Phase 5.
Blizzard is hesitant to simply hand out runes via NPCs, as rune exploration and related quests are key elements of the Plus server experience. They plan to simplify rune acquisition in future updates.
2. P4 Update Bugs
SoD P4 will go live on July 11, and patch 1.15.3 has already been released. However, following the SoD P4 update, many bugs have emerged in Classic Era and Hardcore Servers, suggesting they share the same framework.
Divine Steed Contract: Classic Era and HC Server players can now obtain the "Divine Steed Contract," which is not limited to Paladins. This item, introduced in SoD, allows Paladins to summon a 100% speed Divine Steed (originally introduced in Legion). While other classes can complete the related quest and earn 110 Silver Dawn reputation points, they cannot use the item or summon the Paladin's mount.
Stormwind's Power: Classic Era and HC Server players can also acquire "Stormwind's Power," a buff exclusive to SoD. This buff, introduced in P4, serves as the Alliance counterpart to the "Warchief's Blessing."
Warlock Rain of Fire Bug: Warlocks' Rain of Fire spell has a significant bug, allowing players to cast it while moving without continuous channelling.
Gear Display Errors: Some equipment, such as Mage sets, are displaying incorrectly, with robes appearing as gray placeholders.
Blizzard aims to address these issues in upcoming patches.
3. Priest Full Skill Unlock
Priests will undergo a significant change in SoD P4, with the ability to unlock all racial skills. This includes abilities like the Dwarf Priest's Fear Ward and the Undead Priest's Devouring Plague. However, the process isn't straightforward. The latest 1.15.3 patch notes mention that unlocking this feature requires "a collective server effort," with details remaining under wraps.
The most famous example of a server-wide effort is the Ahn'Qiraj War Effort, but it's unclear why Priests would need the entire server's help to unlock their skills.
