The
Molten Core raid in
WoW SoD will open on
July 25th at 1 PM (PDT)
. Blizzard has released a blue post detailing significant updates about the new MC, including difficulty levels, fire resistance requirements, and new bosses.
The
New Molten Core raid in
Season of Discovery will feature three difficulty levels distinguished by heat intensity:
Sweltering Heat (Difficulty 1), Blistering Heat (Difficulty 2), and Molten Heat (Difficulty 3).
Players can choose their desired difficulty by speaking with the
Hydraxian Waterlords
NPC at the entrance before entering MC for the first time.
The main difference between difficulties is the fire resistance (FR) gear requirements. Blizzard notes that Difficulty 1 requires fewer consumables and has lower FR benefits; Difficulty 2 requires moderate consumables, enchants, and buffs, with a recommended FR of 96 or higher; Difficulty 3 is aimed at professional teams, with a recommended FR of 226 or higher.
Fire resistance in the 60s was a controversial attribute due to its randomness—sometimes low FR could completely resist all damage, while high FR might have no effect. With MC's reopening, the game enters an era where fire resistance becomes crucial again. Blizzard emphasizes the importance of FR in Difficulty 2 and 3, stating it can significantly reduce healing pressure.
However,
MMPJUGG believes that with the strength of classes in the
Season of Discovery, as gear improves—especially with the widespread use of Tier 1 sets that include built-in FR—the strict FR requirements will gradually decrease.
Players are very concerned about the loot distribution across different difficulties. Consistent with previous announcements, higher difficulties will not improve loot quality but increase loot quantity. All three difficulty levels share the same loot table, so the highest and lowest difficulties, like the Destroyer's Blade, with identical attributes, drop the same items.
In Difficulty 2, most bosses will provide additional drops, meaning more loot. In contrast, in Difficulty 3, all bosses will drop extra items and, later on, special drops with extra visual effects (transmog) without changing attributes. This makes "farming transmog" a primary pursuit in Difficulty 3. Blizzard has redistributed some bosses' loot tables to enhance its value, allowing early bosses a small chance to drop items from later bosses, such as the first boss in MC dropping a piece of the Destroyer set. This minor adjustment affects only a few items, keeping the overall loot table unchanged.
Importantly, difficulty levels can be switched anytime by talking to the NPC at the MC entrance while out of combat. Another way to change difficulty is to speak to the NPC that appears after extinguishing a flame. It is assumed that only the raid leader can switch difficulties, and this will consume one difficulty's cooldown.
The
Season of Discovery has optimized the flame-extinguishing process in MC by introducing a teleportation item, the
"Beacon of Hydraxis,"
which teleports players to the Hydraxian Waterlords on the island in Azshara, allowing direct purchase of the extinguishing item "
Aqual Quintessence,
" saving considerable time. Upon reaching Revered reputation with the Water Elementals, this item can be obtained from the Waterlords.
Blizzard also mentioned a secret boss. This boss can be skipped but requires defeating all 10 other bosses to challenge and must be done on the highest difficulty. The secret boss's loot is not exclusive, and the same items will be dropped as regular bosses, including tokens for T1 gear.
That's the rundown of the new Molten Core in the Season of Discovery from
MMOJUGG. We hope this helps all the players out there!
