Game Introduction
On the World of Warcraft" Plus servers, Naxxramas on Epic difficulty has proven to be extremely challenging, with only four guilds managing a full clear (15/15) on the first lockout due to the unavailability of Sapphiron and Kel'Thuzad for practice on the test servers. Here's a look at the new mechanics introduced for these bosses, as summarised by Wowhead.
Sapphiron - The Ice Dragon
Epic difficulty increases:
Glacial Crash: A targeted single player ability. When hit, the player is surrounded by a white circle that explodes after a delay, dealing massive frost damage and leaving an area of effect called "Frost Zone" that mimics a frost trap.
Strategies:
Direct mitigation: The player can step away from the group to take the hit alone, similar to dealing with Grobbulus in the Construct Quarter.
Distribute the damage: Alternatively, the damage can be split between multiple players, but this will result in widespread slowing, making players more vulnerable to Blizzard.
Due to these new mechanics, players must now consider adjusting Sapphiron's position to effectively manage the Frost Zones, as opposed to the traditional "stand still" approach.
Kel'Thuzad
Epic difficulty mechanics:
Ring of Destruction: A blue circle in the room, called the Ring of Destruction, acts as a "poison ring". Players must stay within this circle during the fight or they will die unless they are under mind control. This adds a layer of complexity to controlling mind-controlled players, as they may end up outside the safe zone after being controlled.
Shrinking Circle: Similar to the Shrinking Poison effect, the blue circle will decrease in size as the fight progresses, as shown in the images.
Resurrection Phase: When defeated, Kel'Thuzad resurrects for a unique phase exclusive to Plus servers. He will cast Rapid Decay, dealing 2% damage per second to all players in an increasingly small circle as he begins to decay. This phase reintroduces adds from phase 1, making the scenario a race against time.
Previous exploit: Guilds were bypassing this phase with Flask of Petrification, causing Kel'Thuzad to decay to death. This exploit has been fixed; the flask no longer works, and Kel'Thuzad's decomposition is now slower.
