Why Blizzard Made These Changes

Blizzard's goal with this update is to address the imbalances that defined MoP's original progression, particularly around the Siege of Orgrimmar patch (5.4). Classes were often tuned for late-game content, leaving some specs underpowered early on. To fix this, Blizzard has revisited changes from patches 5.0 to 5.4.8, pulled forward select Warlords of Draenor tweaks, and made targeted adjustments to abilities, glyphs, and talents. The result? A more balanced experience across all phases of MoP Classic. Note that these changes apply to PvE only and won't impact instanced PvP, ensuring battlegrounds and arenas remain unaffected.

Class-by-Class Breakdown

Druid

Balance: Moonkin Form's nature and arcane damage boost jumps from 10% to 20%, a flat 10% damage increase. Shooting Stars no longer splits its proc chance across multiple targets, making Star Surge resets more reliable.
Feral: Gains Nature's Swiftness for instant Healing Touch in PvE (not usable in PvP), boosting survivability in cat form.
Guardian: Maul's rage cost drops from 30 to 20, a Warlords-era change to improve early tanking viability.
Restoration: Naturalist talent now boosts healing by 15% (up from 10%), offering a solid 5% healing buff.

Hunter

Beast Mastery: The Sporebat pet's Energizing Spores is now PvP-only, replaced by Frenzying Spores in PvE, granting 10% melee/ranged attack speed. This change impacts 10-man raiding more, as 25-man groups often have haste buffs from other classes like Shadow Priests or Elemental Shamans.

Mage

Fire: Combustion now draws 50% of Ignite's tick damage (up from 20%), giving Fire Mages a much-needed PvE boost, though it may not dethrone Frost's dominance.

Monk

Mistweaver: Significant mana improvements include reduced costs for Jab and Surging Mist, plus a 68% boost to Eminence healing (42% damage-to-healing conversion, up from 25%). Revival's healing is up 43%, and the Glyph of Uplift returns, removing Chi costs for spammable AoE healing at the cost of mana.
Windwalker: Mastery reverts to its 5.2 version in PvE, reducing Tiger's Eye Brew's Chi cost to 3 (from 4) and increasing damage by 0.2% per mastery point. The Throne of Thunder Tier 15 set bonus also adds a chance to gain extra brew stacks.

Paladin

Holy: Eternal Flame's periodic healing drops by 28% but now triggers Illuminated Healing, which is buffed to 12% (from 10%). This makes Holy Paladins more effective at spreading absorbs.
Protection: Sanctuary's damage reduction rises to 20% (from 15%), and Sacred Shield's absorption increases by 43%, bolstering tank survivability.
Retribution: Builders like Divine Storm and Crusader Strike get a 10% damage buff, while Templar's Verdict sees a 20% increase, enhancing both AoE and single-target output.

Priest

Discipline: Faces significant nerfs, with Divine Star and Halo now capped at 20 damage/6 healing targets. Divine Aegis absorbs drops to 80% of heal value (from 100%), Atonement healing falls to 70% (from 90%), and Penance's Tier 14 set bonus cooldown reduction is cut to 1 second (from 3).
Shadow: Shadowform's damage boost rises to 30% (from 25%), and passive orb generation outside combat improves uptime.

Rogue

Assassination: Resolve's damage buff increases to 25% (from 20%).
Combat: Sinister Strike's energy cost drops to 40 (from 50), though its weapon damage falls to 192% (from 240%), resulting in smoother gameplay. A new Bandit's Guile counter tracks insight progress.

Shaman

Restoration: Healing Rain's healing drops by 25%, and its duration via Conductivity is cut to 30 seconds (from 40). Ancestral Guidance's healing/damage conversion falls to 20% (from 60%/40%), and Riptide's mana cost rises by 15%. Despite these nerfs, Resto Shamans remain valuable for their utility.
Elemental: Lightning Bolt damage increases by 10%.
Enhancement: Stormstrike's weapon damage rises to 450% (from 380%).

Warlock

Affliction: Malefic Grasp and Drain Soul damage increase by 50%, with their secondary effects boosting other DoTs by 50% and 100%, respectively. These buffs aim to make Affliction viable earlier, though they may be reverted later.
Demonology: Wild Imp damage rises by 43%, Glyph of Imp Swarm summons five imps (up from four), and Hellfire/Immolation Aura/Chaos Wave damage increases by 25-50%.
Glyph of Eternal Resolve: In PvE, it reverts to the old Glyph of Everlasting Affliction, extending DoT durations by 50% but reducing damage by 20%.

Warrior

Fury: Absorbing damage in Berserker Stance now generates rage, and Crazed Berserker's auto-attack damage boosts increase to 15% (from 10%) and 30% for off-hand (from 25%). Berserker Rage and Enrage durations extend to 8 seconds (from 6).
Arms: No direct changes, but Fury's buffs aim to make it competitive early on.

What This Means for You

These changes are a bold step toward making every spec viable from the start of MoP Classic. Blizzard's focus on early-game buffs for underperforming specs like Affliction Warlock and Feral Druid, alongside targeted nerfs to dominant ones like Discipline Priest and Restoration Shaman, aims to create a more dynamic meta. Expect further tweaks as beta testing continues, especially after raid testing. For now, throw out those old tier lists—gameplay is about to feel fresh and exciting!

FAQs about Mop Classic Class Changes

Will these changes affect PvP in WoW Classic MoP?

No, these balance changes are exclusive to PvE content and won't impact instanced PvP like battlegrounds or arenas.

Why did Blizzard nerf Discipline Priests and Restoration Shamans?

These specs were overpowered in early MoP, especially in raids, due to their high healing output and utility. The nerfs aim to balance them with other healers.

Are the Affliction Warlock buffs permanent?

Blizzard has indicated that some early-game buffs, like those for Affliction, may be reverted as gear scaling improves in later phases.

How do the Monk changes impact Mistweaver healing?

Mistweavers gain better mana efficiency and stronger Eminence healing, making fistweaving more viable and allowing for spammable AoE healing with the Uplift glyph.

When will these changes go live?

These are currently in the MoP beta, with final tweaks expected after raid testing. They'll likely launch with the MoP Classic pre-patch on July 1, 2025.
