SoD Phase 8 Warrior Dual Wield DPS Guide

by        Game: WOW Classic Season Of Discovery Guide

If you're looking to smash through Season of Discovery Phase 8 as a Warrior, dual-wielding could be your ticket to glory. According to the latest simulations, it's currently the fourth best DPS spec in the game - and frankly, it's the easiest way to play a Warrior without overthinking it. Whether you're an experienced Raider or just someone who enjoys swinging two weapons with reckless abandon, this guide will take you through the essentials: talents, runes, rotation and gear priorities. Let's dive in and turn you into a rage-fuelled machine.

Building Talents: Simple Yet Deadly

The beauty of the dual wield spec lies in its straightforward talent setup. Start with Cruelty (5/5) for that sweet 5% crit chance - who doesn't like to land bigger hits? Next, grab Booming Voice and Battle Shout to keep your attack power pumping with a longer-lasting, cost-free shout. Enrage is a must for later synergy, so don't skip it.
Pump four points into Dual Wield Specialization for a 20% off-hand damage boost, then snag Death Wish, five points in Flurry, and the keystone Bloodthirst—your second-priority ability. Further down the tree, pick up Improved Rend (thanks to its new attack power scaling) and two points of Heroic Strike for some serious damage output. Tactical Mastery makes stance-swapping for Overpower a breeze, while Deep Wounds (3/3) and Impale (2/2) amplify your crits by 20%.
The last few points? Flex them wherever you like—Anger Management or Piercing Howl for utility are solid picks. This build keeps things flexible, yet optimised for chaos.

Runes: Powering up your arsenal

Runes are where this spec shines, turning you into a rage-dumping monster. Here's the line-up:
Head: Endless Rage - 25% more rage generation means you're always capped and ready for full power executions.
Back: Sudden Death - 10% chance of execution procs, plus 10 rage retained after execution. Keeps the momentum going.
Chest: Blood Frenzy - Increases Rend with 4% attack power scaling. Free damage, no additional globals required.
Wrist: Rampage - 10% attack power across the board. Simple and effective.
Hands: Single-Minded Fury - 15% attack speed for dual wielders. Swing faster, hit harder.
Waist: Bloodlust - Heroic Strike, Bloodlust and Whirlwind can proc free instant slams. Massive DPS boost.
Feet: Rallying Cry - A defensive cooldown that benefits the entire raid. Team player vibe.
Rings: Weapon Mastery - Maximises the weapon skill of your chosen weapon (sword, axe, whatever).
Early on, stick with Blood Frenzy over Raging Blow, as Rend scales nicely with the tier 2 set bonus. Once you have the full Scarlet set, consider switching to Raging Blow for a fresh twist.

Gear and the Tier 2 Trick

Speaking of gear, the Tier 2 2-piece bonus from Blackwing Lair is your golden ticket right now. It refreshes Rend's duration on Overpower crits, and with Dual Wield's flurry of swings, you'll be landing these procs all the time. Grab the smallest pieces - like bracers and boots - to minimise stat loss, then fill the rest with Tier 3 or Scarlet raid gear. Two quick runs of BWL should get you this bonus, making it best in slot for now. Once the Scarlet set takes over, you could ditch this for Raging Blow, but that's a problem for future you.

Stat-wise, aim for a 6% hit rate (weapon skill runes will help here), then stack Strength/Attack Power, followed by Critical/Agility. With world buffs flowing like water in phase 8, you'll probably hit the crit cap easily, so prioritise raw power over extra crit.

Rotation: Keep It Flowing

The rotation is where dual wield shines for its simplicity:

Heroic Strike - keep it in the queue. Infinite fury means no excuses.

Execute - Slam it on every sudden death proc. Full-rage executes hit like a truck.

Bloodthirst - Your heavy hitter, use it on cooldown.

Slam - Immediately fires off any Blood Surge proc.

Whirlwind - Great damage, but prioritise slams to avoid wasting procs.

Overpower - Switch to Battle Stance every 10-15 seconds to refresh Rend (thanks, Tier 2) and get below 60 rage for the Consumed by Rage rune proc.

A handy macro can switch you to Battle Stance and trigger Overpower in one click - efficiency is key. This dance keeps Rend up, rage flowing, and damage spiking.

Why It Works

Dual wield's strength lies in its ease and scalability. The endless rage from Endless Rage, paired with Sudden Death and Blood Surge procs, means you're always doing something impactful. The Tier 2 bonus binds them together early on, while the Scarlet set promises even more power later on. It's not the top DPS spec, but it's damn close - and a lot less stressful than juggling a complex rotation.

Final Tips

Don't sweat best-in-slot lists yet; the Scarlet raid gear is still being datamined. For now, grab that tier 2 bonus, max out your weapon skill, and enjoy the ride. Keep an eye on your rage management - stance swapping is your friend - and you'll be topping the meters in no time.
