Season of Discovery Phase 8 Catch-Up Gearing Guide

by        Game: WOW Classic Season Of Discovery Guide

Season of Discovery's Phase 8 is right around the corner, and if you're looking to catch up fast—whether you're a fresh level 60 or just behind on gear—this guide's got your back. We're diving into the best Phase 7 items to keep you competitive without draining your gold stash. From free pre-BiS weapons to stockpiling key resources, here's everything you need to dominate Azeroth in the next phase. Let's get started!

Power Up Without the Price Tag

Hitting 60 on a new character can feel overwhelming, especially if your weapon's lacking. Sure, you could drop thousands of gold on something like a Refined Arcanite Reaper, but why spend a fortune when you don't have to? Enter the Perfect Poison quest in Scarlet Hold. This hidden gem takes about an hour or two and rewards you with a beastly Item Level 70 weapon—think Dul'us Prime for Ret Paladins, Reloading Repeater for Hunters, or Sh'Raketh for casters. You only need a Venoxis Venom Sack from Zul'Gurub and an Axis Venom Sack from AQ10. It's free, fast, and a total game-changer for early gearing.

Stockpile Tarnished Undermine Reals

Phase 8 raises the cap for Tarnished Undermine Reals to 250, and trust me, you'll want to max this out on every character you're serious about. These reals could unlock some seriously powerful items—like Tier 2.5 gear from AQ or even raid-ready weapons (fingers crossed!). A hefty stack now means less grinding later, saving you from endless Strat runs or outdated raids. Those juicy set bonuses are your ticket to snagging Blackwing Lair gear, which still slaps for classes like Paladins, Warlocks, and Druids.

AQ40 Pieces: Still Viable and Easy to Grab

Worried about missing out on the latest raid gear? Don't sweat it. In Phase 8, the Sanctified trinket bonus won't apply to Scarlet Monastery, so AQ40 items—like boots and shoulders—stay incredibly strong for specs like Affliction Warlocks, Holy Priests, or Mutilate Rogues. The best part? AQ40 pugs are a breeze these days. Most players are too busy chasing shiny new trinkets to notice you quietly upgrading your tier pieces. Sneak in, gear up, and walk out like a champ.

Old Raids, Big Rewards

Don't sleep on older raids like Molten Core, Zul'Gurub, and AQ10. These spots drop solid weapons, tier pieces, and essentials like Primal Hakkari Idols and Trinkets—perfect for Scarlet Monastery prep. You'll also rake in Tarnished Undermine Reals and maybe even score a free epic mount from AQ10. Say goodbye to that embarrassing 60% speed mount and hello to some serious street cred.

Top-Tier Weapons to Chase

When it comes to big-ticket items, a few weapons stand out. Atesh is a fan favorite—61% of over 900 polled players say it'll stay OP through Phase 8 thanks to its party-wide 2% attack speed buff. It's a keeper, even if new caster weapons drop. Then there's Blade of Inquisition, a reliable two-hander that's way easier to snag than the elusive Ashbringer. And don't overlook Kingsfall—pair it with the upcoming Queensfall in Phase 8 for a killer weapon duo, especially for Rogues.

Armor and Trinkets: Set Bonuses and Power Boosts

Tier sets from Phase 7, like those from Naxx, still offer some of the best stats and set bonuses around. Not sure which pieces to prioritize? Check out a SIM sheet for your class—there's usually a reliable one floating around online. Trinkets like Kiss of the Spider, Slayer's Crest, and Restrained Essence of Sapphiron are must-haves, too—grab them now because they won't get easier to find. Skip Hand of Justice, though; a quick quest in Phase 8 hooks you with a better version.
For extra oomph, hunt down enchants like Might of the Scourge or Power of the Scourge. They're often ignored during progression but become a clutch in Phase 8. And if you're in Eastern Plaguelands, visit Brother Lucius for a bonus shoulder enchant—trade some Corruptor Scourge Stones and Necrotic Runes for a custom tier set bonus.

Miscellaneous Gems You'll Wish You Had

Here's a sleeper hit: the Darkmoon Card: Nether. With a 100% chance to resurrect at 20% health and mana on a 3-minute cooldown, it's a raid-saver during tough progression fights. Another smart pickup is Remnants of Valor for Naxx runs—it's account-bound and perfect for mailing to alts, especially with 4-hour invasion boosts on the horizon.

Thanks for Reading

Getting ready for Phase 8 doesn't have to be a grind-fest or a gold sink. Focus on freebies like the Perfect Poison weapons, stockpile those reals, upgrade AQ40 gear, and snag top-tier items like Atesh or Kingsfall. Every step you take now sets you up to shine in the new phase. What's your top gear priority? Drop it in the comments—I'd love to hear your take!
