Season of Discovery Phase 2 has been open for almost two weeks, and Blizzard has finally initiated the first round of class balance adjustments. Let's take a look at the specifics along with
MMOJUGG.
Druid
Druids were initially very strong in Phase 2, but as the "early bird," their dominance was swiftly curtailed by Blizzard, resulting in druids currently performing poorly in PvE. To compensate, Blizzard slightly bolstered druids in this balance adjustment.
The adjustments for druids are as follows:
- Berserk now also increases the number of targets struck by Lacerate while active, effectively enhancing their AoE capabilities.
- Starsurge bonus damage to Starfire increased to 80%, addressing a bug that caused the bonus damage to be lower than intended at level 40.
- Swipe now scales with attack power, gaining 10% of attack power as damage.
- Threat caused by Swipe greatly increased.
- Rip duration increased to 16 seconds (from 12 seconds), although this change provides only a minor boost as Rip currently accounts for only about 6% of a druid's rotation.
Hunter
Regarding
hunters, there is only one change:
- Raptor Strike damage when the Melee Specialist rune is active is now normalized weapon damage.
Raptor Strike is a core ability for melee hunters and contributes the highest proportion of their damage. Before the change, Raptor Strike's damage was affected by weapon attack speed, with slower attack speeds resulting in higher damage. This was one of the fundamental reasons many hunter players used Warsong Gulch one-handed swords.
After the adjustment, Raptor Strike's weapon attack speed has been standardized (dagger: 1.7, one-handed: 2.4, two-handed: 3.3, ranged: 2.8), reducing the prominence of slow weapons and lowering the damage ceiling for hunters. The good news is that melee hunters now have more weapon options, including faster weapons that were previously overlooked.
Paladin
- Fixed an issue where Fiery Weapon enchantment and Seal of Martyrdom were triggering each other. Neither can trigger the other anymore.
- Fixed an issue where Fiery Blaze and Fiery Weapon enchantments could trigger or be triggered by Seal of Martyrdom. Those interactions no longer occur.
Priest
- Mind Spike damage increased by 10%. Void Plague damage increased by 10%.
- Shadow Word: Death base damage before modifiers decreased by 40%, with the spellpower coefficient adjusted to 42.9% (from 64.3%).
Following druids, Shadow Priests have become the strongest class in outdoor PvP, with a single Mind Flay often dealing around 1500 damage. Since Blizzard has already nerfed druids, it's reasonable to expect Shadow Priests to be nerfed as well. The good news is that Blizzard has also increased the damage of Shadow Priests' Mind Spike and Void Plague, aiming to boost regular output while reducing burst damage.
Rogue
- Shuriken Toss bounce range reduced to 10 yards (from 15 yards).
Rogues are already underperforming in PvE, and getting into groups is extremely challenging. It's absurd that Blizzard would even consider nerfing rogues in this context.
Shaman
- Fixed an issue where Fire Nova did not benefit properly from Elemental Mastery.
- The Dual-Wield Specialization rune now provides a 50% bonus damage to your offhand weapon swings.
- Lava Lash now gains a 50% increased damage if Flametongue Weapon is imbued on your offhand.
- The proc chance of Maelstrom Weapon is now roughly 50% higher when your main hand weapon or your two-hand weapon is imbued with Windfury Weapon.
Blizzard has finally remembered to strengthen Enhancement Shamans. However, Enhancement Shamans are currently at the bottom of the pack, and this enhancement can only elevate them to a moderate level, still leaving them with a noticeable gap compared to top DPS.
