Hey, Azeroth adventurers! If you're knee-deep in Cataclysm Classic - with Phase 4's Dragon Soul coming to the PTR in March 2025 - and already dreaming of Mists of Pandaria Classic, we've got you covered. MoP is still a long way off, but smart moves now can set you up for a goldmine when the Mists of Pandaria roll in. I've jumped back into Cata myself, preparing hard-leveling alts, stacking gold, and keeping an eye on future profits. Here's how you can join me and make a killing. Let's dive into the plan!
Why Prepare Now?
Cataclysm is winding down with Dragon Soul, new dungeons (End Time, Hour of Twilight), and Looking For Raid on the horizon. But MoP is the next big thing - think new professions, battle pets, and cooldown crafts that'll shake up the economy. Starting now means you'll be ready to roll when it drops, not scrambling while others rake in the gold.
1. Level Alts Like Crazy
My top move? Leveling a group of alts to 85. I've got 11 characters - three 85s, a mix of 80s, 83s and 84s - all inching towards max. Why? MoP keeps crafting king of the cooldown, and more alts means more passive gold. Right now they're parked in Uldum, transmuting Living Elements (150 gold per day per alt) and Truegold (solid profit). With 10 alts, that's 1,500 gold in two minutes a day! The Joyous Journeys 50% XP buff (live now) makes this the perfect time to grind level fast, profit sooner.
2. Master Cooldown Professions
MoP's cooldown professions are gold printers - here's what to target:
Tailoring: Celestial Cloth (10 bolts per day) and Imperial Silk (8 bolts per day, separate cooldown) craft BoE epics and spell threads. Double-dip daily for max output.
Engineering: Jard's Peculiar Energy Source (10 Ghost Iron Bars daily) builds pets (Pierre, Rascal-Bot), a 36-slot cooking bag, or the Sky Golem mount—30 days of crafting for a herb-picking beast non-Druids crave.
Alchemy: Living Steel (6 Trillium Bars daily or 3 Spirits of Harmony) powers the Sky Golem and other crafts.
Pair Engineering with Alchemy for self-sufficient Living Steel, or mix Tailoring with Mining for Mats. Skill these now in Cata-max Alchemy for transmutes, start earning gold today, and roll into MoP ready.
3. Skill Professions Smart
Don't wait - level up now! Use WoW-Professions.com (search for it) for leveling guides. Pick your region, realm, faction and go 1-525 on Alchemy or Tailoring. It will spit out a shopping list - copy it to TSM, buy mats cheap and craft efficiently. I max out alchemy on alts; the gold from transmutes pays for MoP mats later. Free Skilling? Yes, please!
4. Stockpile gold now
Transmutes are your ATM in Cata - 150 gold per living element or more for Truegold. Joyous Journeys makes leveling a breeze, so get your alts to 85, max out their professions and stack gold daily. Use it to buy MoP Mats (Windwool Cloth, Ghostly Iron Bars) when they're cheap at the start of the expansion. Passive gold now = big profits later.
5. Eye Battle Pets
MoP turns pets into Battle Pets - levelable from 1-25 and tradeable. Rare ones like Hyjal Bear Cub or Darkmoon Hatchling could spike in price. Check your collection or AH for deals - pets under 50 gold now can fetch 500+ in MoP. Research top-tier pets on pet battle sites (such as Petopia) and invest early.
Tips to Nail Your Prep
Alt Army: Aim for 5-10 maxed alts - more cooldowns, more gold.
Profession Synergy: Alchemy + Engineering or Tailoring + Mining saves cash.
Gold Flow: Spend 2 minutes daily on transmutes—1,000+ gold weekly adds up fast.
Pet Watch: Snag rare pets cheap now—MoP's pet battles will drive demand.
