POE2 Mastering the Trial of the Seimas

The Trial of the Seimas in Path of Exile 2 is a challenging yet rewarding part of the game where players can earn Ascendancy points and choose their Ascendancy class. This guide aims to provide a deep dive into the mechanics, strategies and detailed walkthroughs to help you succeed in the Trial with minimal frustration.

Understanding the Basics of the Trial

Entering the Trial:

To enter the Trial of the Seimas, players must use a Gin Bara coin at the Relic Altar. These coins can grant access to one to four floors, depending on the level of the item.

Gameplay Mechanics:

Honour: Acts as a secondary health bar. If it reaches zero, you will fail the quest.
Holy Water: A currency used throughout the trial for various interactions, such as activating shrines or trading with merchants.
Keys: Collected to open chests at the end of floors, starting from zero each time you enter.

Interface elements:

At the bottom of the screen you'll see your honour, holy water and any keys you've collected.
To the right is the objective of the current room, which can range from surviving until a timer runs out to specific tasks such as killing rare monsters.

Room Types and Challenges

The trial consists of different room types, each with specific challenges:

Escape Room:

Goal: Disable crystals. A light emitted by a deactivated crystal will guide you to the next one. From the second floor onwards, several lights can appear, providing different paths.

Chalice Trial:

Task: Follow the flow of blood from the goblet to find and kill rare monsters.

Ritual Trial:

Aim: Kill summoners near portals to stop monsters spawning, but be aware of exceptions where rare monsters won't despawn even after summoners are killed.

Gauntlet Trial:

Focus: Navigate through traps to find the exit. Interacting with switches and coloured crystals to open doors is common.

Hourglass Trial:

Mechanics: Pull a lever to start a timer and spawn monsters. Killing rare monsters reduces the time you have to stay in the room.

Strategic navigation and decision-making

Room selection:

When choosing rooms, consider both rewards and afflictions. Rooms with purple borders indicate additional challenges or afflictions such as Haunted Cloves, which increase monster damage.

Relics and attachments:

Relics offer persistent bonuses throughout the process. Choose those that increase honour resistance, effectively quadrupling your honour capacity and recovery.

Holy Water Management:

Use this currency wisely for shrines, merchant interactions or to save up for keys at the end of the trial. It's obtained from monsters, bosses and certain room rewards.

Rewards and their effects

Shrines:

Shrine of Tavina: Restores 25% of your honour.
Shrine of Aiwana: Provides 20% honour recovery and a random boon.
Shrine of Balala: Gives 50% of your honour back, but with a random affliction that may not be worth the risk.
Shrine of Galai: Best for its 50% honour recovery, affliction removal and a random boon.

Other rewards:

Keys to chests, holy water from wells, and merchant interactions or vow choices offer strategic advantages or recovery options.

Afflictions and Boons

Afflictions:

These can range from reducing your defence or speed to making traps more deadly. Some afflictions can make or break your run, so choosing when to take them or how to mitigate their effects is crucial.

Boons:

Enhance gameplay by increasing damage, speed, or providing additional honour regeneration. Choosing boons strategically can turn a challenging run into a successful one.

Boss Fight Analysis

Each floor culminates in a boss fight, each with its own unique mechanics:

First Boss: Watch for AOE attacks and time your approach.
Second Boss: Two bosses with elemental attacks; timing and positioning are key to avoiding their combined attacks.
Third Boss: A scorpion with ground-based attacks and slowing puddles; mobility is your friend here.
Fourth boss (final): A DPS check with mechanics such as petrification, slowing effects and a crucial time-based challenge with hourglasses. Managing your mana and DPS effectively is essential.

Tips for success

Avoid Dead Ends: Always consider future room choices to avoid paths with no viable options.
Portal Out: If you need to trade or adjust your build, complete the room first and then portal out without penalty.
Mana Management: Make sure your build can sustain through long fights, especially the final boss, to avoid DPS drops.
