The Dawn of the Hunt patch notes for Path of Exile 2 (Patch 0.2.0) have been released, and with the update coming out tomorrow, 4 April 2025, item mechanics are getting a major overhaul. Grinding Gear Games is tweaking crafting, increasing drop rates and refining modifiers - some buffs, some nerfs, all game-changing. From Jeweller's Orbs to Rune Ranks, this is the final big piece of the patch puzzle, and it's got us hyped. Be sure to save our page and swing by our PoE2 shop—anything you can imagine, we can make happen! Here's every detail, broken down and ready to go!

Crafting tweaks: Jeweller's Orbs Reworked

Jeweller's Orbs: Now set a skill gem to a specific number of support gem sockets, rather than just adding to existing sockets. Example: A perfect Jeweller's Orb can turn a gem with 2 sockets into 5 total control, no RNG creep.
Vaal orbs: Can't reduce a modifier from 1 to 0 anymore - less heartbreak for the game.
Crafting is getting smarter - more precision, less chaos.

Rune revamp: Tiers and Drops

Rune Tiers: Runes are now divided into 3 tiers (e.g. Lesser Storm Rune, Storm Rune, Greater Storm Rune). Reforge 3 Lesser for 1 Regular, 3 Regular for 1 Greater - stack 'em up!
Drop rate: Rune drops doubled—more runes, more power.
Reforging Nerf: No more trading 3 runes for a random one—specificity reigns.
Runes are now a tiered treasure hunt - stockpile and upgrade, exiles!

Weapon Updates: Crossbows Buffed

Crossbows: Base damage increased, now two-handed, added damage mods (was one-handed) - bigger bolts, bigger bangs.

Basic types: Advanced and Expert items get unique names - stand out in style.

Crossbow fans, rejoice—your ranged game just got beefier.

Modifier tweaks: Buffs and Nerfs

Physical Thorns: Rare item mods buffed up to 3.5x on the highest tier (lowest tier unchanged) - thorns hit back harder.
Item Rarity: Top tier suffix now 25% (was 30%), prefix 25% (was 32%) - rarity reduced a bit.
Golden Charm: increased item rarity by 15% (was 20%)-less bling per charm.
Breach Rings: Implicit max quality 40% (was 50%, Divine Orb updates), drop chance reduced-rarer rings, less quality sap.
Elemental damage mods: First two tiers on weapons reduced, lightning damage slightly reduced - early game sparks dimmed.

Mana mods:

Amulets: Max mana increased by 3-4%, 5-6%, 7-8% (was 5-6%, 7-8%, 9-10%).
Belts/Gloves/Boots: +105-124 max mana.
Helmets: +125-149 Max mana.
Wands/Sceptres/Staves/Focii: +150-164 Max health.
Rings: +165-179 Max mana.
Sceptres: +4 to Minion skills (was +5, existing items safe), 80% increased Presence AoE (was 30%, Divine Orb updates).

Corrupted mods:

Jewels: +4-6 to attributes (was +5-10).
Helmets/Rings: Drops 1-2% Health regen/sec for 1-2% increased Health regen rate.
Gloves: Gone-RIP slow debuffs increased by 20-30%.
Relic Mod: Trader extra options now +1 (was 2-3, Divine Orb can nerf).
Modifiers are shifting - thorns spike, rarity drops, and mana caps tighten.

Jewel and Passive Changes

Starting Notables: Can't be instilled or rolled on uniques like Megalomaniac - existing bugged Sorceress/Witch items remain unchanged.
New Jewel Mods: Match new passive skills (e.g. Companion max health boosts) - new synergies coming.
Rare Stat Mods: Blind Effect, Recovered Health, etc. keep min values but lower max values - less extreme outliers.
Aura effect: No longer on Jewels/Lost Jewels - Auras remain grounded.
Fletching Mods: 4-6% (Jewels) and 2-3% (Time-Lost) increased Quiver bonuses (was 5-15%, 3-7%).
Energy generation: Jewel mod 2-6% (was 3-7%, Divine Orb rerolls).
Soul Core of Azcapa: increased gold yield by 5% (was 10% rarity).
Jewels are pivoting - new options, trimmed extremes, and a golden twist.

Why It's a Big Deal

This item overhaul is a crafting and loot lover's dream. Jeweller's orbs give you socket mastery, crossbows pack a bigger punch, and rune tiers add progression depth. Thorn buffs and rarity nerfs shake up gear priorities, while over 100 new uniques (teased earlier) loom on the horizon. It's a balance pass with buffs where it counts - tomorrow's drop on the 4th of April is your chance to forge something epic. Wraeclast's gear game just leveled up!
