The Legacy of Phrecia event is bearing down on us in Path of Exile (POE) 1, and Grinding Gear Games (GGG) have just released a juicy FAQ to clear up the confusion. Announced for 21 February 2025, this event is a wild "what if" experiment - think alternate progression and a scrapped endgame system dusted off for a month of madness. Let's dive into the key details, from idol juicing to card sustain, plus a sneak peek at some crazy new ascendancies.
What's Legacy of Phrecia all about?
Imagine GGG flipping the script on POE 1. 19 new Ascendancies replace the old guard, and the Atlas passive tree is swapped for an idol system. It's not going core - private leagues will keep it alive after the event - but it's a chance to play an alternative Wraeclast. The launch date is still under wraps (they're setting milestones first), but expect news soon.
Endgame Idols: Power and Drops
The Idol system is the big change. Here's the scoop:
Power level: Idols come in magical (2 mods) or rare (4 mods) flavours, are unmodifiable, and have 2-3 times the power of Atlas Nodes. Some mods (such as 100% vault reopening) are toned down to avoid madness, while others (free ritual rerolls) crank up the juice. Fully optimised, you're looking at 3x+ the content or power of a single mechanic compared to the Atlas.
Drop rate: Core pool from endgame, scaled with juice, plus a 50% chance from final map bosses. Early on they're sparse, juice hard and you'll drown in them - multiple per map late game.
QoL boost: GGG is adding a loadout system (hopefully day one, maybe day seven) and 32 slots (20 base, 12 unlockable via favoured map content). Less than the teased 42, but still plenty to play with.
This isn't a permanent Atlas killer - it's a one-off 'alternate reality' vibe. After that, it's private league fodder.
Map persistence and progression
Worried about maps drying up without Atlas sustain nodes? GGG's got you covered:
Idol Implicits: New implicits increase the chance of a map dropping, so even dud idols will keep you rolling.
Atlas completion: Might take longer without Kirac mission nodes (like +6% chance), but juicing with Rogue Exile idols or scarabs can speed it up.
It's less deterministic than the Atlas, but not a brick wall - patience or clever juicing will get you there.
Rewards and event duration
Cosmetics: Reach level 80 for a full set of Autumn Knight armour. Casual players may take a week or two; veterans will get it on day one.
Duration: One month basic, but GGG is open to extending this based on feedback - or running more events - until 3.26 drops. Could extend to a week before the next league.
New Ascendancies Sneak Peek
Three new Ascendancies have been teased, and they're wild:
Daughter of Oshabi (Ranger): Wand attacks with an Affliction twist. Think Azmeri vibes and funky affliction synergy - details TBD.
Antiquarian (Marauder): A relic hoarder, not a brute. Turns armour into Ward with Kalguuran gear - Ward Loopers, anyone
Surfcaster (Unknown): Fishing rod buffs (yes, really) and Impulse's Broken Heart synergy. Farm rods with Fairgrave's Tricorne from unique monsters - Rogue Exile juicing helps.
These deserve their own spotlight - expect deep dives soon.
Settlers League tweaks
Because it's based on Settlers, town upgrades are a pain point. GGG's slashing the early costs (verisium ore and thaumic dust mills) to smooth this out. Pro tip: Rush Mining 11 and Disenchanting 2, then juice a Domination Scarab of Apparitions for Elder Slayer gear to shred for dust.
Last bits
Blocker nodes: Unique idols mimic Atlas blockers (e.g., no Harvest).
Migration: Post-event, characters hit Settlers League, Ascendancies respecs to core classes - replay any maze to pick your flavour.
No test: This isn't POE 2 prep - just a fun, scrapped idea revived.
Legacy of Phrecia is shaping up to be a chaotic blast. Get ready to experiment!
