PoE 2: Introducing the Reforging Bench

by        Game: Path of Exile 2 Guide        Tags: PoE 2 Reforging Bench Intro

The Reforging Bench is an essential item crafting tool in Path of Exile 2, allowing players to refine and enhance their equipment in unique ways. Here's a detailed guide to getting the most out of the Reforging Bench:

Unlocking the Reforging Bench

Quest requirement: The Reforging Bench is available after completing the Treasures of Utzaal quest in Act 3. This involves defeating Mektul the Forge Master in the Molten Vault to obtain the Hammer of Kamasa, which you must then return to Oswald in the Ziggurat Camp to unlock the bench.

Location and Access

Location: Once unlocked, you can find a Reforging Bench in any town and place one in your hideout via the Decoration menu.

Functions of the Reforging Bank

The Reforging Bench allows you to perform several crafting tasks:
Combining items
Essences: Three of the same basic essence can be combined to potentially create a new essence or, with a low probability, upgrade to a greater essence.
Catalysts: Three identical Catalysts can be reforged into a random Catalyst of the same level.
Unique Items: Three of the same unique item can be reforged into an unidentified version of that unique item with potentially different stat rolls.
Upgrade items
Waystones: Three Waystones of the same level can be combined to create one of the next higher level. This can help with your Atlas progression.
Rerolling Gear
Relics: Combining three identical Relics gives you the chance to make better rolls or even a higher tier of the same Relic.
Precursor Tablets: Three Precursor Tablets of the same type can be reforged into a new, random one, which is particularly useful for SSF players.

Crafting Mechanics

Item level: The item level of the output is always based on the lowest item level input, so it's wise to use items of similar levels for consistent high level results.
Corruption: Only uncorrupted items can be used in the Reforging Bank. Once an item is corrupted, it cannot be modified.

Tips for using the Reforging Bench

Essence crafting: As the chance of upgrading to a Greater Essence is low, consider reforging basic essences if you have a surplus or are targeting specific modifiers.
Catalyst Management: Use the bench to convert excess or less desirable Catalysts into potentially more useful ones.
Waystone Strategy: Plan your Waystone reforging to steadily increase your map level without risking too much on each attempt.
Unique Item Experimentation: If you have excess uniques, especially those with wide stat ranges, reforging can give you better rolls without the cost of a Divine Orb.

Limitations and considerations

RNG dependency: Much of what you get from the Reforging Bank is based on random chance, so there's always risk involved.
Resource Investment: You're using three items for one, so you need to consider the value and rarity of the items you're using.
Item rarity: The reforged item retains the rarity of the ingredients (normal, magical or rare), so you can't increase the rarity using this method.

Thank you for reading

The Reforging Bench in Path of Exile 2 offers a nuanced approach to item crafting that allows for both lateral and vertical progression of your gear. Whether you're looking to upgrade maps, tweak your unique item rolls, or manage your crafting materials more efficiently, understanding how to use this bench can greatly enhance your gameplay experience. Remember, crafting in PoE2 is as much about strategy as it is about luck, so plan your reforging with both in mind.
