PoE 2: Infinite Mana - A Guide

Mana management in Path of Exile 2 (PoE2) is a nuanced aspect that can make or break your gameplay experience. Whether you're clearing maps or facing off against bosses, maintaining your mana is crucial for uninterrupted spellcasting and skill usage. Here's an in-depth guide to achieving near-infinite mana sustain, tailored for both beginners and advanced players.

Gear and items for mana management:

Thief's Torment Ring

An excellent option for mana sustain, providing mana leech on hit, but comes at a high price and may compete for valuable ring slots. Only consider this if your build can afford to dedicate a ring slot to mana management.

Inspiration Support Gem

This gem reduces the mana cost of linked skills through a negative mana multiplier. While it's not as powerful as PoE1 (it lacks crit and elemental damage boosts), it's perfect for secondary skills or triggers where DPS isn't the primary concern.

Mana per enemy killed

Often found on weapons and quivers, this stat provides a quick burst of mana when killing enemies, making it ideal for clearing large packs. However, its effectiveness diminishes in boss fights, where fewer kills occur. Look for it on budget-friendly two-handed weapons, where it can significantly aid your Mana sustain without breaking the bank.

Improved Mana Potions

For longer boss fights or when you've run out of mobs to kill, potions with extra charges or faster recovery can be a lifesaver. However, due to the mechanics of the game, these are more of a backup than a primary solution.

Mana cost reduction

Look for weapons with this suffix to directly reduce the mana cost of your skills. It's crucial for builds with high-cost abilities.

Increase Maximum Mana

By increasing your mana pool, you will naturally increase your mana regeneration and the effectiveness of percentage-based recovery. Focus on equipment such as boots, belts, amulets, and helmets that provide flat mana bonuses.

Ointments and unique gear strategies

Siphon Anointing

Anointing your amulet with Siphon gives you 2% mana recovery on kills, a godsend for attack-based builds. Use oils from Delirium or trade to apply this anointing, which also comes with a bonus to the increased Mana leech.

Physical damage leech as mana

Even if your build is partially shifting physical damage to another damage type, this leech can still provide some mana return. It's especially useful on gloves, where you can also look for attack speed or resistances.

Building and expanding your mana pool:

Flat Mana

Gear that boosts your Mana pool directly is one of the simplest solutions. Any gear that adds 100+ mana can make a significant difference, especially if your recovery is percentage based.

Mana regeneration

While flat regeneration is beneficial, scaling your mana pool makes percentage-based regeneration more powerful. Look for items or passives that increase your base regeneration rate.

Advanced Mana Strategies

Amulets & Rings

In addition to mana, these items should ideally cover resistances and health. Remember that each point of Intellect adds 2 mana, so attribute boosts can indirectly help with mana.

Belts

Often overlooked for mana, belts can be an inexpensive way to boost your mana pool. Look for belts with Health, Armour and Mana. Use crafting techniques such as exalted orb slams to potentially add resistances or strength, which will also contribute to Health.

Helmets

Triple resistance helmets that also provide mana can be found at reasonable prices. They will help round out your defences while boosting your mana.

Boots

Focus on movement speed, but don't ignore Mana as an attribute. Boots can provide a surprisingly significant mana boost without inflating the cost.

Gear flipping and crafting for mana:

Belt Crafting
Buy undervalued belts with good health, armour, or mana, then use exalted orbs to potentially roll resistances or strengths that can be flipped for profit or personal use.
Weighted Sum Searches
Use this feature on trade sites to find items where high mana stats or other desirable attributes are not reflected in the price, allowing you to purchase or craft valuable equipment at a lower cost.

Gameplay adjustments for Mana Sustain

DPS vs. Mana Sustain

High DPS can solve mana problems by ending fights before depletion becomes an issue. However, if you're going to sustain, you'll need to focus on recovery mechanics such as leech, regeneration, or Mana on Kill.

Boss strategy

Traditional mana regeneration or leech becomes more important here, as opportunities to kill for mana are limited. Prepare your build with adequate mana recovery for these scenarios.
