Player Concerns Over Simplification in FFXIV

       by        Game: FFXIV Guide

The ongoing simplification of various aspects of Final Fantasy XIV, particularly its combat system, has made the game more accessible but has also led to concerns about a lack of depth. As the release of "Final Fantasy XIV: Dawntrail" approaches, an online poll among international players revealed that most are worried the new version's jobs might be further simplified.

In a recent interview, producer Naoki Yoshida addressed these concerns, acknowledging that they are aware of the players' worries. He promised that jobs like Samurai would not be further simplified. He explained that when they initially sought player feedback on whether to remove the Samurai's "Hissatsu: Kaiten" skill, more people wanted it removed than those who liked it.

Yoshida continued, stating that "there is no correct answer" in such situations because "some people prefer more complex mechanics, while others prefer simpler ones," and neither preference is wrong. The removal of skills like "Hissatsu: Kaiten" will always provoke mixed reactions, with some missing the skill and others being indifferent.

However, Yoshida expressed that he, like many fans, is now "worried about the oversimplification of jobs." He hopes that every player can "showcase their skills or expertise" but noted that the current simplicity of jobs puts them in a challenging situation.

Finally, Yoshida assured that with the release of "Dawntrail" and its future updates, the team will address this issue and "commit to providing a more fulfilling gameplay experience." These improvements will be implemented in version 7.2 and beyond: "We will focus on the jobs and strive to offer more job-specific individuality."
