Want to boost your damage in New World: Aeternum without breaking the bank - or your sanity? Major Battleground Trophies are your answer, providing a sweet +5% damage boost per house against certain mob types. Even better, farming their legendary materials can line your pockets with gold, and it's a lot easier than most players think. No crazy raids or endless grind - just a few smart spots, some patience, and maybe a friend or two. Here's your no-nonsense guide to where you can get these goodies, how long you'll have to wait, and why it's worth your time in 2025.
Why farm major trophies?
Major combat trophies—think
Ancient,
Corrupted, or
Human—give you that juicy +5% damage edge when hung in your houses (up to +15% with three). They're made from legendary resources, which sound intimidating but are completely farmable. And if the RNG isn't your friend, every kill drops a guaranteed shard - 100 shards to craft into a legendary material in a workshop, no skill required. Sell them at the trading post or keep them for use on expeditions. Zero gold upfront, pure profit potential - get on with it.
Farming spots and respawn timers
Corrupted: Pit Lord Daehi (Shattered Mountain)
Location: Lurma Area, quick travel to the War Camp Shrine.
Drop: Corrupted Totem (or Shards).
Timer: 6 minutes solo.
Atmosphere: Easy solo kill, but watch out for the corruption damage that will tick your health. After the kill, hop onto a nearby rock to stay AFK until the respawn.
Tip: Stack some corruption resist if you're squishy - keeps the grind cold.
Ancient: The Surgeon (Reekwater)
Location: Skyview Repose, travel from Reekwater City or nearest shrine.
Drop: Ancient jawbone (or shards).
Timer: 6 minutes solo, half with a group.
Atmosphere: Solo friendly - knock him down, then chill on a pillar while he naps.
Tip: Lucky gear increases your chances of getting the Mandible - worth it if you're chasing the big drop.
Lost: Morai the Mortician (Ebonscale Reach)
Location: Skysong Crypt, northern Ebonscale, closest shrine to Brimstone Sands.
Drop: Ephemeral Signet (or shards).
Timer: 5 minutes.
Atmosphere: Soloable, but wandering mobs are annoying - kill them, then sit on a roof and wait.
Angry Earth: Baines (Edengrove)
Location: Spire Dangerous Bridge, walk from Edengrove town or nearest fast travel.
Drop: Glowing Sap (or Shards).
Timer: 1.5 minutes solo, drops to 30 seconds with a crew.
Atmosphere: Fast and furious - respawns super fast, but not very AFK friendly. Bring pals for maximum efficiency.
Human: Sir Junric the Strategist (Ebonscale Reach)
Location: Adelus Foundry, western Ebonscale, nearest shrine in Brimstone Sands.
Drop: Human Idol (or shards).
Timer: 6 minutes.
Atmosphere: Big hitting beefcake - solo's tough, so group up. Expensive drop means lots of farming buddies around.
Tip: Team up - faster kills, more idols and a big pile of potential gold.
Wildlife: Bears (Everywhere, but Brightwood's best)
Location: North Brightwood (Gravelle Grotto's bear centre).
Drop: Pristine bear claw (no shards).
Timer: Varies - hunt them when they spawn.
Mood: No shards here, and claws are dirt cheap at the trading post. Skip farming unless you're desperate.
Upgrade your farm
Lucky gear: Put on some Luck perks - higher chance of Legendaries, less shard grinding.
Groups: More people reduce respawn timers (except bears) - Baines goes from 1.5 minutes to 30 seconds with a party.
AFK Spots: Rocks, roofs, pillars - find a spot to chill between kills. Keeps him low-effort.
Trading Post Check: Shards don't trade, but legendaries do. Prices vary - Human Idols often top the charts, so prioritise Sir Junric if gold is your game.
Why it's a win
This isn't a sweaty endgame slog - most spots are soloable, low-risk and consistent. You're guaranteed to collect shards, turn them into Legendaries, and either craft trophies for harder smashing or sell them for easy gold. No crafting levels required, no upfront costs - just your axe and some time. Server prices fluctuate (Casia's ironwood is 0.56 gold for reference), so check your trading post to see what's hot.
