Choosing the Right Armor: Light, Medium, or Heavy?
When selecting armor in New World, you may find yourself torn between gear with higher stats and maintaining mobility. A heavier chest piece, for example, may offer a better gear score but could limit your dodge rolls. Dodge rolling is essential for quick, evasive combat, so losing it could negatively affect your gameplay, especially if you're playing a build that relies on agility.

The armor types—light, medium, and heavy—determine your movement and resistance to physical and elemental damage. Heavier armor provides more protection, but it can also slow you down. Always weigh the pros and cons: more armor versus mobility. A Marauder Gladiator breastplate may have higher physical and elemental resistance, but lighter armor might be better if you're used to dodging quickly.

Understanding Gems: How to Maximize Your Gear
As you level up, you'll start to find gear with empty gem sockets. These sockets allow you to attach gems, providing extra bonuses to your weapons or armor. Gems are uncut versions from mining nodes like iron, silver, gold, and platinum veins. Higher-tier nodes drop rarer, more powerful gems.

Once you have an uncut gem, please take it to the Outfitting Station, where it can be refined into a cut gem. Cut gems come with different effects based on where you socket them. For instance:

Weapon Gems: Provide offensive bonuses like extra damage or healing.
Armor Gems: Provide defensive boosts such as physical or elemental resistances.

For example, socketing a Cut Diamond into a weapon can grant 9% more damage when at full health, while putting the same gem into armor will increase your physical and elemental resistances.

However, be cautious about using gems while leveling up. Gems are consumed once placed in an item and can't be retrieved. Therefore, saving them for higher-level gear is best unless you have a surplus.

Faction Quests and Why They Matter
At level 17, you'll encounter quests in the Everfall region that introduce you to the three factions of New World:
Marauders (green)
Syndicate (purple)
Covenant (orange)

While choosing a faction isn't a permanent decision (you can switch factions every 30 or 60 days), it's vital to complete faction quests for several reasons:

Faction Missions: These provide valuable XP, faction tokens, and rewards that significantly boost your leveling process.
Faction Store: Offers powerful gear and crafting materials, which will be crucial for your progression.

Even if you're not interested in PvP, joining a faction is essential for unlocking a variety of content and gaining access to exclusive faction gear.

Mounts: Unlocking Your First Horse and More
When you hit level 20, you'll be able to unlock your first mount, which dramatically increases your travel speed across Aeternum. The quest to unlock your first mount, Moon Shadow, involves completing tasks for an NPC named Joi Kih in the Everfall region. You'll also have the option to unlock additional mount skins like the Azoth Stalker (dire wolf) or Lion Mount if you pre-ordered or played before certain dates.

Mounts are more than just cosmetic in the New World. As you gain riding XP through races and feed your mount, you'll increase its movement speed, making it easier to traverse the map.

Expeditions: Group Content and Valuable Rewards
One of the most exciting aspects of New World is its Expeditions, group-based dungeons that offer valuable loot and challenging encounters. The first expedition you'll unlock is the Amrine Excavation, available around level 25. These expeditions require a minimum group of three, though most groups run with five players, with specific roles like tank, healer, and damage dealers.

Expeditions are a great way to gear up since bosses and chests inside drop gear appropriate to the expedition's level. They also offer puzzles, mini-bosses, and multiple boss fights to keep things interesting.

The Importance of Keeping Gear Up-to-Date
As you progress, don't forget to upgrade your weapons, armor, and tools periodically. Even if your character reaches level 40, wearing level 20 gear will drastically lower your effectiveness. Keep an eye on the gear score of items and your character's overall armor and weapon ratings. A well-equipped player will have a much easier time handling tougher enemies and completing difficult quests.

Faction missions, crafting, and even purchasing from the Trading Post can help you stay updated with your gear. Maintaining a balance between leveling and upgrading your equipment will ensure smoother progression in the game.

Progressing efficiently in New World: Aeternum requires smart decisions regarding gear, gems, and factions. By balancing mobility and armor, socketing the right gems into your gear, and completing faction quests, you'll set yourself up for success. Don't forget to stay current with your mounts and expeditions as you unlock new content. Remember, while it's tempting to rush to max level, take the time to enjoy the journey and explore everything Aeternum has to offer.
