Launching on 28 February 2025, Monster Hunter Wilds takes hunters to a vast, dynamic frontier with multiple ways to team up and tackle its monstrous challenges. Whether you're teaming up with friends or joining random hunters, this guide breaks down the core multiplayer systems - Link Parties, Lobbies, Environment Links and Squads - to help you hunt efficiently and stay connected. Let's take to the wilds together!
Multiplayer in Wilds adds to the thrill of the hunt, allowing you to share the load, strategise and reap epic rewards. With cross-platform play across PS5, Xbox and Steam, you'll never be alone - unless you want to be.
Multiplayer systems explained
Link Party: Your core hunting group
How it works: The primary way to hunt with a consistent group (up to 4 players). Stay together across quests - when one member posts a quest, everyone receives an automatic invitation.
Setup:
Find your Hunter ID (login screen or Hunter Profile in the menu).
Share it (works across platforms) and invite via Menu > Communication > Invite to Link Party.
Send friend requests (same menu) to easily reconnect later.
Strategy: Perfect for story quests or grinding - keeps your crew together without breaking up.
Lobbies: The social hub
How it works: Large sessions (up to 100 players) where you can mingle at base camps, chat and form link parties.
Public lobbies: Join randomly via Recommended Lobby or Lobby Search (set preferences).
Private Lobby: Create one (Menu > Start Game > Private Lobby), share the ID and restrict it to your chosen hunters.
Strategy: Use public lobbies for casual play or to find Link Party members; use private lobbies for controlled squad-ups.
Environment Link: Roam free together
How it works: Syncs your party (from a link party) to a player's map for free-roaming hunting and exploration - no quest posting required.
Set up: Menu > Communication > Link Party > Invite Everyone to Environment Link.
Strategy: Ideal for endgame farming - hunt random monsters, gather, or enjoy unique map conditions together.
Squad System: Build a community
How it works: Join or create a squad (up to 50 members) for a persistent group with its own lobby and chat.
Set up: Speak to Felicita (Windward Plains) to create or join a squad (share squad ID).
Strategy: Great for making hunter friends - join squad lobbies for easy quest hopping with like-minded players.
Tips for seamless hunting
Crossplay: Enabled by default (toggle in Options on the title screen) - use Hunter IDs to connect across platforms.
Preparation: Complete the Chatacabra Tutorial (Chapter 1) to unlock multiplayer (~15 mins).
Flexibility: Combine systems - start in a lobby, form a link party, then roam via environment link.
SOS flares: Need some quick help? Fire one (Menu > Missions & Quests > SOS Flare) to summon random fighters.
