by        Game: Monster Hunter Wilds Guide

Welcome to the ultimate guide to tackling Arzuros, the flagship monster of Monster Hunter Wilds! This massive, acrobatic wyvern is a thrilling challenge, combining long-range tendril attacks with devastating close combat. Whether you're a seasoned hunter or entering the fray for the first time, this guide breaks down Arzuro's moveset, mechanics and strategies to help you come out on top. Let's sharpen our blades and get hunting!

Overview: Meet Arzuros

Arzuros is a hulking wyvern with plated tendrils sprouting from its arms, capable of delivering punishing blows infused with dragon elemental energy. It's fast, agile and unpredictable, striking from a distance with its tendrils or leaping in for brutal melee attacks. Its empowered states increase its threat level, so preparation and awareness are key. Before you dive in, try facing it solo first - learning its patterns firsthand is the best way to grow as a hunter.

Preparation: Gearing up for battle

Elemental Defence

Arzuros primarily deals Dragon Elemental damage. To mitigate this:

Equip armour with high dragon resistance.

Wear dragon resistance decorations if available.
Eat a dragon resistance meal before hunting for an extra buffer.

Combat tools

Use Focus Mode attacks to inflict wounds and break parts, reducing Arzuro's offensive power.
Bring Slinger Pods - when grabbed, shoot its mouth to quickly break free.

Arzuro's moveset and how to counter it

Ground Scratch

What it does: Arzuros will move sideways, raise a wing and drag it back across the ground.
How to avoid it: Watch for the peak of the wing lift - dodge at that moment to easily avoid the scrape.

Tendril Strike (Normal state)

What it does: Slaps the ground with one or two tendrils, signalled by a windup as it pulls its arms back.
How to counter: Dodge the slams, then strike during the recovery window. The windup is your cue to prepare.

Tendril Variations (Normal State)

Backhand hits & backward spins: Quick repositioning moves followed by more attacks.
How to counter: Stay mobile and watch his arms - don't get caught in the follow-up.

Empowered tendril strikes

What it does: Tendrils split from two to four, infused with the Dragon Element (and sometimes another element depending on the area). Includes fast strikes, wide sweeps and ground explosions.
Visual cues: Thunder tendril sweeps or explosive patches on the ground.
How to counter: Dodge based on the speed and range of the attack - fast strikes require quick rolls, while explosions require you to clear the area.

Wing Attack

What it does: Covers its head with a wing and charges forward, dealing solid damage.
How to counter: Block if you've got a solid shield or dodge to the side. Timing is critical, so stay alert.

Leap Strike

What it does: Leaps forward with a sudden arm strike after sneaking around with your eyes closed.
Visual cue: Red flashes under its wings.
How to counter: Dodge as soon as you see jerky movements or the clouds forming.

Twisting Sweep

What it does: Jumps back and forth, twisting its body upwards in a sweeping, dragon-infused blow.
How to counter: Dodge to the opposite side of its head as it moves forward - this is the safest place to be.

Tail Attacks

What it does: Slashes or spins 360 degrees with its tail, especially if you stay behind it.
How to counter: Slice off the tail to disable these moves completely. Otherwise, avoid its back.

Dual Claw Slam

What it does: Signals a one-armed strike, but slams both arms down in a massive frontal cone.
Visual cue: Head tilts up just before the slam.
How to counter: Watch for the tilt and roll out of the frontal arc quickly - this is a heavy hitter.

Atomic Wyvern Strike

What it does: Arzuro's ultimate move. It roars, glows brightly and chains three growing explosions after hitting the ground.
How to counter: Avoid the frontal arc as the attack begins. Stay behind him for a huge, undisputed damage window while he recovers.

Combat Strategies

Break parts early

Focus Mode attacks on wounds are your best friend. Breaking Arzuro's tendrils or other parts will weaken its moveset and make the fight more manageable. Prioritise these when openings appear.

Exploit recovery windows

Big moves like Ground Scrape, Tendril Slam and Nuclear Wyvern Strike leave Arzuros vulnerable. Hit hard after dodging - especially behind it during the ultimate attack.

Stay mobile

Arzuros' speed and range require constant movement. Don't get too caught up in combos - hit, reposition and watch for its next move.

Severing its tail

When you're near its back, cut off its tail to prevent tail-based attacks. It's a small but worthwhile investment.
