After the big wipe in patch 4.8, most players are back to square one. Ships look empty, armor is gone, and the usual contract loops are still catching up. Planetary Alignment Facilities (PAFs) have become one of the smartest early targets for consistent armor and weapon upgrades. They're not the flashiest activity, but they deliver reliable results if you understand the system.
These sites on moons like Daymar feature clusters of small buildings, vehicle garages, and one main central structure. The loot is locked behind a simple but strict keycard chain: blue cards open printers for red cards, and red cards unlock the good rooms inside the main building.
Some PAFs, especially certain Atis/Aradus variants on Daymar, spawn a red card inside the main facility. That single detail cuts your travel time and exposure significantly. I've seen too many players waste blue cards on already-used printers—always scout a couple side buildings first before committing.
Land on a pad with decent sightlines into the main building.
Clear exterior NPCs and rooftops.
Grab blue cards from open-style buildings.
Print red cards in the blue-door garages.
Hit the main loot rooms once the area feels safe.
One underrated risk: player traffic spikes hard on fresh wipes. What starts as quiet PvE can turn into a surprise fight the moment someone hears gunshots. The smarter move is often a fast hit on one high-yield site rather than trying to fully clear everything.
Agile small ship (Pitbull shines here for quick repositioning).
Solid pistol or SMG — the P6LR remains excellent for quick NPC takedowns.
Med pens, extra ammo, and something with range for safe sniping.
Space for armor swaps and a few backpacks.
Daymar currently offers the strongest combination of layout and loot density. PAF Aradus 3 (and similar Atis/Lamina sites) stands out because of the internal red card spawn — you often only need two printed reds instead of three. Aberdeen sites serve as solid backups when Daymar gets crowded.
For full lists and exact coordinates of all active facilities, check the Star Citizen Wiki page on Planetary Alignment Facilities. Specific examples include Lamina PAF-II on Daymar and the Ruptura/Vivere series on Aberdeen.
The Pitbull turns into a serious force multiplier. Park it near garages, use its guns to soften NPC groups, then hop out to grab cards. It also makes checking multiple buildings faster and safer.
Inside the main building, focus on beige and orange crates for armor sets. Antium pieces (especially the white variant) show up regularly. Green weapon crates frequently drop Parallax rifles, Devastators, or shotguns. Blue flashlights and certain helmets are nice bonuses that sell or look good.
On contested servers, the optimal path isn't maximum looting—it's getting in, securing one strong armor set plus a weapon, and extracting. Overstaying for every box is how you lose everything to a random player or NPC grenade.
Always clear the area before pulling out keycards. Pistol NPCs hit surprisingly hard, and desync can make fights feel unfair. Use landing pad elevation for free shots into rooms whenever possible. Close doors behind you when inside for a small safety buffer.
After looting, you have options. Store gear in your ship, then exit to menu or bed log if your spawn is set at a station like Seraphim. This avoids risky flights with full inventory. Looted vehicles like the Argo Atlas can also be stored in 4.8 if you have the space.
Blue keycards open printers located in the blue-door side buildings. Those printers create red keycards needed for the main loot rooms. Check that the printer is still active before using a blue card—some stay on cooldown after use.
PAF Aradus 3 (and similar Atis sites) on Daymar are the strongest choice early in the patch. The internal red card spawn and good armor crate density make it more efficient than most alternatives.
Antium sets from orange/beige crates are the main target, along with Supernova pieces. Parallax rifles, Devastator shotguns, and various attachments appear often in green crates. Helmets and backpacks are common side loot.
Land with good sightlines, clear from range when possible, and don't linger after combat starts. Quick in-and-out runs on less popular instances usually beat fully clearing busy sites.
Yes. In 4.8 you can often store them in your hangar if your ship has space and you bed log or properly store them.
For direct self-gearing, they remain excellent. You get usable armor and weapons without spending aUEC, which is huge in the first weeks after a wipe.
Patch 4.8 turns PAFs into a solid way to rebuild your kit fast. Learn the keycard flow, pick your landings carefully, and you'll be back in decent armor quicker than most.
