1. Purchase Epic Boots (Item Level 359)

For Players with a Main Character: If you have a well-geared main, log into it and head to Orgrimmar (Horde) or Stormwind (Alliance). Look for the Justice Quartermaster, where you can purchase BoE (Bind on Equip) epic boots (item level 359). You can buy these boots and send them to your freshly leveled alt character.
For New or Returning Players: If you don't have a main character, check the Auction House for these boots. They're often available for under 1,000 gold, which is a small investment compared to the gold you've likely accumulated while leveling. Look for other affordable epic or rare BoE items to boost your item level further.

2. Twilight Highlands Quest for a Weapon (Item Level 333)

Quest Line: Head to Twilight Highlands and complete the quest chain here. This quest series will require a small party, but at the end, you'll earn a level 333 weapon, which is a considerable upgrade for new 85s.
Class Exception: Note that Feral DPS players won't get an optimal weapon upgrade from this chain, but all other classes and specializations will find it useful.

3. Reputation Quartermasters for Gear

Why It's Important: Gearing up via reputation rewards is efficient, as each faction provides valuable pieces you can buy once you reach Exalted.
How to Earn Reputation: To gain reputation quickly, visit faction Quartermasters (e.g., Earthen Ring, Therazane, etc.) and purchase a Tabard for the faction you want to boost. Equip the Tabard and complete dungeons to gain reputation for that faction.
Exalted Rewards: At Exalted, you'll have access to unique epic items, including items like head enchants, that will greatly benefit your gearing process.

4. Starting Dungeon Runs for Gear

Normal Dungeons First: Begin with normal-level dungeons to build up a few pieces of solid gear. These runs will be quicker and easier with a decent item level, allowing you to move on to heroic dungeons sooner.
Collect Off-Spec Gear: Take it even if gear drops that aren't for your main spec. Items you keep in your bags (even if unequipped) count towards your average item level, helping you qualify for higher-level heroics more quickly.

5. Accumulating Justice and Valor Points

Justice Points in Normal Dungeons: As you run normal dungeons, you'll earn Justice Points, which you can spend in Orgrimmar or Stormwind at the Quartermaster. Look for items that will either increase your item level quickly or are particularly strong for your class/spec.
Valor Points in Heroic Dungeons: Once your item level is high enough (346), start running heroics, especially Zul'Aman and Zul'Gurub. Each boss in these dungeons drops epic gear, and the final boss rewards two pieces. Completing these dungeons for the first time daily grants you 240 Valor Points, with subsequent completions rewarding 60 Valor Points. This will help you gear up rapidly with Valor-purchased items.

6. Choosing Between Tier 11 and Tier 12 Gear

Tier 11 Gear with Justice Points: You can purchase Tier 11 items using Justice Points. This is a great way to quickly raise your item level, especially if you're starting with heroics and need an immediate boost.
Saving for Tier 12 Gear: Valor Points can be used to buy Tier 12 gear, which is significantly stronger. Once you're earning Valor consistently, saving for Tier 12 pieces may be wise instead of spending Justice Points on Tier 11—unless your current gear is much weaker and urgently needs an upgrade.

7. Firelands Raid Preparation

Practice with Tier 11 Content: To prepare for Firelands, familiarize yourself with raiding mechanics and rotations by clearing Tier 11 raids. These include Bastion of Twilight, Blackwing Descent, Throne of the Four Winds, and Baradin Hold.
Baradin Hold Weekly Raid: Baradin Hold offers quick, efficient raids with a chance to drop Tier 12 gear. The second boss in Phase 3 adds even more opportunities for high-quality gear, so make it part of your weekly routine.
Enhance Your Character's Performance: Maximize your character's output to increase your chances of a raid invite. Equip your items with top-quality enchants, gems, and glyphs, optimize your talents, and reforge as necessary.

8. Head and Shoulder Enchants via Reputation

Head Enchants: Completing quests in Deepholm and equipping the faction Tabard in dungeons is a fast way to reach Revered with Therazane for head enchants. Head enchants are Bind on Account, meaning you can send them to alts after purchase.
Shoulder Enchants: Shoulder enchants from the Therazane reputation are also Bind on Account. Reach Exalted for the best enchant available and use it on any future characters.

9. Leveling Professions for Character Bonuses

Why Professions Matter: Some professions offer substantial bonuses. For instance, Jewelcrafting provides unique gem sockets, while Enchanting gives access to powerful enchants exclusive to the enchanter. Blacksmithing allows you to add sockets to gear, making it highly beneficial.
Crafted Gear: Many professions, like Tailoring and Leatherworking, can craft valuable items that may serve as essential upgrades or gap-fillers in your gear.

10. Trash Farming in Firelands for BoE Gear and Reputation

Farming for BoE Epics (Item Level 378): Gather a group to farm trash mobs in Firelands. These mobs drop Bind on Equip items (item level 378) that you can equip or sell for a profit.
Avengers of Hyjal Reputation: Killing these trash mobs also grants reputation with the Avengers of Hyjal. At Friendly, you can unlock a cloak. At Exalted, you can purchase a high-level ring and trinket—gear that will be useful throughout the raid.

11. Farming PvP Honor Points for PvE Gear

Epic PvP Gear: Honor gear isn't just for PvP. In many cases, PvP epics can replace weaker PvE gear. Farm Wintergrasp every three hours for a quick way to get Honor Points.
Honor-to-Justice Conversion: You can trade 375 Honor Points for 250 Justice Points, and vice versa, allowing you to supplement your PvE gear if you primarily do PvP content. You'll be able to upgrade PvE gear efficiently this way.

This guide covers everything you need to get into Phase 3 content quickly. Follow these steps, and soon you'll be raid-ready for Firelands and other Cataclysm Phase 3 content!
