In Path of Exile 2 (PoE2), an experiment was conducted in which 30 million gold was spent gambling for amulets and rings. The aim was to assess the potential return on investment in terms of acquiring valuable unique items or high-level rares, and to provide an objective view of the effectiveness of this approach within the game's economy.
Gold Distribution: Gold was divided
equally between amulets and rings, with 15 million each, with the aim of
filling inventory tabs with items that could potentially yield high returns.
Amulets
The investment in amulets resulted in a
full four tabs of items. Most were rare, with a few unique amulets such as
Angul's Harmony and Rondel's Fragility, but none stood out for their market
value.
Rings
Spending on rings filled almost another
four tabs. There were some unique rings such as the Whisper of Brotherhood, but
none were particularly high value.
Rare
Amulets: Many had decent modifiers useful for minion builds or skill enhancement, but lacked the synergy or stats to be considered high value without further crafting.
Rings: Similar patterns were seen, with
interesting stats, but not in combinations or quantities that would make them
immediately valuable.
Crafting efforts:
Selected items have undergone crafting to increase their value
Exalt Slams: Often resulted in the
addition of less impactful stats, such as evasion, rather than significant
damage or survivability boosts.
Chaos Orbs: The Chaos Orbs Were used to reroll mods,
sometimes achieving minor upgrades, but rarely transforming items into
high-value pieces.
Profit: From this investment:
Four items were noted for their potential
value:
Two rings valued at approximately 50
Exalts each.
One ring valued at approximately 2
Divine.
Another ring worth approximately 1 Divine.
Total value vs. investment: The estimated total value of the items was around 3 divines, a considerable loss compared to the 30 million gold spent, not counting the additional crafting currency.
Conclusions:
Efficiency: This method of gambling was found to be inefficient compared to other in-game activities such as mapping or boss farming, which offer more consistent returns.
Learning: The experiment highlighted the high risk and often low reward of indiscriminate gambling in PoE2, suggesting the need for more targeted strategies or prudent spending.
Approach to gambling: Players should approach gambling in PoE2 with caution, recognising the high potential for loss and low chances of significant gain without a specific strategy or selective selection of items. This case study advises focusing on activities with more predictable outcomes to build wealth in the game.
This investment experiment in Path of Exile 2 highlights the unpredictable nature of playing for items. It serves as a reminder that while the allure of quick wins through gambling exists, the results often do not justify the investment, suggesting that traditional gameplay or strategic crafting may be more beneficial for long-term success in the game.
This analysis provides insights into managing expectations and resources within the dynamic economy of Path of Exile 2.
