The Alpha 4.8 wipe wipes ships, aUEC, and gear for most players(Official Alpha 4.8 Patch Notes). A lot of veterans actually welcome the reset — it brings back that exciting from-zero-to-hero feeling. If you're staring at a fresh account wondering where to start, this is currently one of the steadiest and most beginner-friendly paths.
Hit F1 to open Contracts, accept the global Call to Arms for passive pay per kill, then grab easy Foxwell Enforcement missions around Orison (like “Exciting New Opportunities"). Any starter ship works.
Maelstrom Physics Impact: With the introduction of the Maelstrom physics system in 4.8, environmental destruction is now a tactical factor in bunkers. Cover like small crates or railings can be physically destroyed under heavy fire. Be mindful of your positioning; NPC fire can now chip away at your cover, but you can also use this to flush out enemies hiding behind destructible objects.
Quantum to the security post, get close, and use your ship lasers to clear outside hostiles. Pro tip: After landing, press N to turn on landing lights and reduce speed — it helps a lot when approaching tight bunkers.
Land, switch to gimbal mode (right-click), and clear the rest with whatever pistol you have or loot on site. First time landing and getting shredded by NPCs is completely normal — everyone goes through it. Pull back, kite them from distance, and you'll quickly learn the rhythm.
Loot aggressively. Prioritize medium armor NPCs and strip the full set (legs, chest, arms). You rarely need to bring your own gear. Each mission pays 40-50k aUEC. Do 3-4 runs and you'll have 150-200k.
Always check your HUD before shooting. Accidental ally damage gives a crime stat. Clearing it costs both time and money at security posts — a common and annoying new player trap.
Head to Lorville on Hurston. Land at Tissa Spaceport (watch for flashing green lights or the tall landmark building) and rent an Argo Raft at Vantage Rentals (~67k/day or 181k for 3 days).
Go to the medical clinic
Select Transfer Imprint → Confirm
Now backspacing respawns you directly here — huge time saver
Station also has a full Galleria for gear and a cargo center right nearby
Buy a MaxLift tractor beam (20k) at the Cargo Shop and equip it via the storage kiosk. Complete the first Covalex Independent Contractors titanium delivery to unlock stacking. Then start stacking 5-6 “Rookie Rank" planetary titanium missions on the same Seraphim → August Dunlow route.
Position your Raft's cargo grid close to the freight elevator
Use tractor beam (or freight manager) to load boxes neatly
Left-click to grab, scroll wheel to adjust height
Freight Elevator Efficiency: Alpha 4.8 has refined the Freight Elevator UI and physics. While manual loading is required for most beginner missions, the grid "snapping" is more responsive. If boxes appear to float, wait for the server heart-beat to sync. Note that loading speeds are now slightly tied to server health—if the elevator is unresponsive, wait 30 seconds instead of spamming the button to avoid "ghost cargo" bugs.
Quantum to August Dunlow, hold Left Alt + Middle Mouse to contact ATC and request a hangar
Land and use the quick-tap trick: brief left-click then release with the tractor beam to drop safe stacks instead of tall unstable towers
Always align boxes directly under the freight elevator. If they're off-center, they easily get stuck or lost
If physics bugs out (very common on low server FPS), go to the ASOP terminal, store the ship, then reclaim it — this often resets cargo positions cleanly.
Loop Type | Missions | Approx. Payout | Time | Hourly Rate |
|---|---|---|---|---|
Early Mercenary | 3-4 | 150-200k | 20-30 min | 400k+ |
Stacked Planetary Haul | 5-6 | 300k+ | 2-2.5 hrs | 900k–1.2M |
Boxes stuck or floating → Store & reclaim the ship
Elevator not registering all boxes → Make sure they are physically under the elevator platform
Mission not completing → Use the “Submit" button for partial credit (small deduction only)
Abandon any Grim Hex missions immediately
Keep a close eye on your rental timer
Avoid Orison servers during peak hours — FPS often tanks and makes loading/unloading painful
Low server FPS is currently the biggest frustration in 4.8
Advanced 30K Protection: The Server Crash Recovery system in 4.8 is significantly more robust. If you experience a "30K" server error while hauling, do not claim your ship via the ASOP terminal at your next login. Wait 10-15 minutes; the system will usually heartbeat your ship and its cargo back to its last known safe location (usually the last station you visited), allowing you to resume your loop without losing your investment.
If you find the post-wipe grind or server-related cargo losses too time-consuming, you can skip the struggle and buy Star Citizen aUEC to instantly unlock your favorite heavy haulers.
Hauling isn't the absolute fastest method, but it's extremely consistent and nearly risk-free. You can learn the game comfortably while your money grows steadily.
F1 → Call to Arms + Foxwell missions near Orison. Clear bunkers, loot gear, repeat 3-4 times until you can afford the Raft.
For this exact loop, yes. Cheap, easy to fly, and perfect capacity for rookie stacked missions.
After completing the first Covalex titanium run from Seraphim to August Dunlow.
Align ship to elevator, tractor neatly. Unload with quick-tap drops. Store/reclaim if physics breaks. Always keep boxes centered under the freight elevator.
Comfortable players hit 900k–1.2M. Relaxed pace still delivers 600-800k — very solid for low-stress play.
Cargo loss from glitches (submit partials), rental timer expiry, and bad server FPS. Overall one of the safest ways to rebuild after wipe.
This mercenary seed money into Argo Raft hauling loop is one of the most reliable ways for most players to recover after the 4.8 wipe. It teaches core mechanics while keeping your wallet healthy.
